I myself have had quite a lot of fun with it, since I am really into multipath gameplay, one of the reasons I enjoy the Hitman series so much.

I played Crysis like it was Metal Gear Solid... does that qualify me?

As far as your problems, perhaps many of them are related to Windows 7, there are some fixes that should remedy this problem. You can also, try to run it in a VM, the game dates from 2000 so any VM with basic video acceleration should be able to run it just fine for you.
Thanks SoulThief! +Rep for the info. I'll definitely give it a go. I've heard so many great things about DE, so it kills me not to play it.

I tried playing GOTY edition and quite often the tutorial scripts would blink off the screen, I had a lot of issues with it and always wanted to play it...

This gives me some more incentive to do so...

The game sports all types of approaches, you can go in guns blazing, or you can take a detour and try to lockpick or hack your way through.
Mostly, all the levels are made to allow the opportunity of both, there's no denying you have to use force in some sequences, though.

But if you prefer combat over sneaking, the game definitely allows for such approaches. Neither approach is better, and are well balanced, sneaking has more chance of survival but needs lockpicks and multitools (small single-use PDA that hacks digital locks). While fighting needs more ammunition and more skillpoints devoted to combat.

I've even seen people doing "pacifier" runs, where they never fire a single lethal shot, just tranqs and melee batons.

It took me 32 hours to complete the first game without killing a single person. That was quite a challenge.

The second game only took me 8 hours to accomplish the same thing.

However I loved both games, regardless of what fans thought of the second game I still enjoyed it due to it being an extension of the original story line.

I absolutely love the politics behind the game and I hope the third game continues this trend and isn't dumbed down to suit the masses.

You owe it to yourself, as a gamer, to at least have tried it.
Many people haven't had the chance to try it, and they've really been missing something great.

Most of what you see in HR's trailers applies to the first game as well.
The graphics might, perhaps, be off putting, but these texture remakes and the gameplay and story really make up for that loss.

Eh, I don't mind graphics as much. I couldn't play HL1 because of the horrid textures, but Deus Ex seems to be OK. I still play Metal Gear Solid once or twice a year and that came out in what, 97?

MGS, to me, is the ultimate in Stealth genre...but considering this has the same type of game play (gun or stealth), it's right up my alley. And I'm an absolute sucker for Cyberpunk.

Stealth is much more emphasised in Deus Ex compared to MGS.

Think of it as having the stealth of Splinter Cell entwined with the in-depth story of MGS.

The textures in my opinion are about on par with Half Life 1, in fact I would say they are pretty much identical graphically.

I struggled at first to accept this (having only played both Deus Ex games a couple of years ago) but once I was immersed the graphics became completely irrelevant and I didn't really pay much attention to them in the end.

Along with Metal Gear Solid 4, Deus Ex has to be the best game I have ever played. I'm a sucker for ultra immersive and complex story lines, if you like MGS I have no doubt in my mind that you will love this.

Interesting. Well, I'm sold. Thankfully I already own it since a buddy gifted it to me on Steam. I'll just install New Vision and go from there. This sounds extremely fun.

What was that noise? Oh, i dunno, but your face is getting shot off right now!!!!!!

I'm really close to completing HL2-Cinematic Mod so once I'm done with that this week, I'll be jammin DE. Can't wait!
