its not "unix" its unix 03 certified...closest thing to a unix system now days as it is no longer a "functional" OS and hasn't been maintained in quite a few years...most who know of unix, don't realize it is no longer around these days, but only in name and standards.
as for my comment, there were things taken from openbsd and netbsd and put into mac os x, those two OS's are open source. i just found it funny the initials of the company that is suing apple atm, as they also stand for "open source software".
the gap between linux and open source is a big one. gnu and open source are two different entities, striving for two different goals...they kinda go hand in hand as they both offer the source to be open, available and alterable by anyone. linux at its heart is a gnu OS with some OSS to accent it with...i know they sound a lot of like, but people who are involved with them know the differences, mainly philosophical differences...
so i'm not sure how your comment is related to mine as you mentioned linux and unix coming before it and being a proprietary platform, care to explain?
