LF> New computer speakers + headset

Thread Starter
First of all, I'm not much of an audiophile... so as long as the sound quality isn't garbage, I'll be very content.

For speakers: I'm currently running an ancient set of Logitech X-230 and they're going to die soon so I need a replacement. I'm looking for something <$150. Any suggestions?

For the headset: mostly for skype while gaming. I don't need anything with surround sound or anything fancy. Comfort and mic quality would be most important I think.

Thanks in advance!

Whats the budge for the headset? What are your listening preferences? More a gamer or music listener? Like Bass or Rock? Etc...

Speakers:
Non-Bass head: Swan m10s (Decent bass but not floor shaking by any means)
Bass Head: Klipsch Promedia 2.1

<100 for headset. More gaming than music on the headset for sure. If I'm listening to music, it'll be on the speakers. Bass>Rock. Thanks for the quick suggestions, I'll be sure to take a look.

Then for pure gaming it would be the zalman zm-mic1 clip on mic + Audio Technica ATH-AD700. You can find them refurbed for $70. Largest soundstage of any headphones in its price range. Hope your soundcard is good enough.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm running an SB Audigy 2 ZS. Fairly ancient sound card.. would an upgrade give me a noticeable difference?

He said that he games more than he listens to music and that he has speakers for music. ACtually your sound card will serve for now.

The RX900's could be a nice choice as well.

IMO, he'd be better off grabbing an RX700 and a mic. He doesn't need AD700s for Skype. He doesn't seem to be looking for an extreme edge or anything so AD700s would be totally overkill for him.

I'd also recommend the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 for him.

Your Audigy 2ZS is a good little card, but if you've got the money, jumping up to a Xonar DX or so would be a nice jump. Nothing over the edge, but also newer and a bit better. Xonar DG if you don't want to spend a lot.

Yeah, but gaming with good headphones offer a huge advantage over speakers. With the AD700 he wouldn't have to worry about upgrading to better gaming headphones.

I would also second the Xonar DX suggestion. AD700 at $80 and DX at $60 would still put you under the limit.
