When i plug in my graphics card and connect power the computer doesnt turn on

Thread Starter
Hi,

So i had my gtx 460 1gb overclocked and testing it out on metro 2033, around 10 minutes into playing the pc crashes and shuts down. I try to turn it back on but it only turns on for a second then shuts down again. I tried my other gtx 460 768mb card and it worked fine so im pretty sure it isnt the psu although it might be due to power requirements. Im stuck as to what to do. Is my graphics card dead or?

Thanks ahead of time,

possibly, were you monitoring the temps while you tested?
if so, what were they at?

So your card 1GB card is just totally dead now? Try re-seating the card and power connectors, and leaving the PSU unplugged (or switched off) for like 20 minutes, then try firing it up again.

BTW, welcome to OCN, and please fill in your system specs (User CP up at the top/Add System) so people can give you the best possible assistance based on your hardware.

When your system turns on for like a second, then shuts off, it's typically a sign of a short-circuit somewhere in the system. It's the PSU's protection circuitry making that happen.

try booting with your onboard graphics, uninstall afterburner or disable the automatic overclock at startup then restart with gpu plugged in to secondary slot.
sounds odd but it did work for me when i went a bit mental OCcing

@brett ya wouldnt even turn on. I left the card for a good half hour everythign turned off but still the same thing. I even tried the card on a different computer to test it out again it just turned on for a second.
Ok so if it is a short circut where do i go from there?

And just a question, considering the card died out while overclocking would the card's overclocked cores stay overclocked even after uninstalling afterburner?

haha
having chubble mate?

OP no the OC will revert to default if you uninstall afterburner, which is why i mentioned it,slim chance but a chance all the same.
if it did boot in another pc then all is not lost.
