Please Check My Build - i5 2500K

Thread Starter
Hi,

Looking to get a new build in the next few weeks and came up with the following. Ideally, I would like to knock a little bit off the total cost so any recommendations would be great! Of course, I don't want to take a big drop in performance - if it's better value for money then I'm all ears.

Likewise, if something here isn't that great, I'd like to hear it!

It doesn't need to be from Overclockers, just they seem to be a decent price. A similar build from eBuyer came to pretty much the same price give or take.

Cheers!
Rab

Motherboard
Get the Asus P8Z68-V PRO

Cooling

Noctua d14 that coolermaster wont handle big OC!!!

OCUK

SCAN - £30ish cheaper so added the noctua d14!!

I have set the basket up for you. https://secure.scan.co.uk/aspnet/Sho...f8f96353cb7808

this RAM is not compatable - the low profile vengeance is required

And the corsair drive I have in scan there is faster. that ssd you have has a slloooow write speed.

Everything looks great - only places I could see knocking a bit of $$ off of would be dropping back to 4GB of memory, going with a non modular PSU, and possibly dropping the SSD for now and adding it later (although that would obviously affect the feel / performance of the computer) - otherwise pretty much spot on of what I would get

That's an excellent build.

I'm assuming you don't plan on going SLI in the future? Judging from your choice of a smaller case and the mobo. The 6950 will hold its weight but its hard to tell what the next gen of PC games will demand (Holiday season will be a benchmark for all our systems). If you could, try and allocate some more funds for possibly a 6970 / gtx 570.

Keep what you got, get a Western Digital hard drive instead and a lite-on burner.

I would have to agree with what most people have said here. I would recommend going with one of the ASUS P67 boards (Pro, Deluxe) as they provide room for SLI and a few more features. If you want to save money, you could skip the SSD unless you really want one. Otherwise, everything looks good!

I do like your build. Very budget oriented, and yet......still powerful.
