Decent RAID5 controller? - Page 8

Think of your home router as a five port switch, with a single port router attached internally to one of the ports (which is pretty much what it is anyway - this is why most routers have 4 ports, but switches have 5 or 8 - because the switching chips have 5 ports. In an 8-port switch 1 port from each chip are attached together, leaving 8 for your devices).

The switch deals with all the local traffic, and only passes WAN traffic to the router. The switch doesn't touch the router CPU at all in normal use.

So I received the PERC 5/i that I bought today. Problem is, it didn't come with memory. I contacted the seller, as it was advertised as coming with memory, but in the meantime, I was thinking about just popping in another stick of DDR2 I have. Will it work with any DDR2? Is it ECC ram? Any size limits?

Eh, just found all my answers in the sticky at the top of this subforum. ECC DDR2, 5 chips maximum. No size limit though? So if I had a 5-chip 1GB ECC stick, it should work fine? I don't have such a stick, just throwing out an example...

EDIT: Also, can't seem to find any 5-chip ECC ram on newegg. It all seems to be 9-chip. Is there a specialty store that might sell some? Mainly looking for a price comparison so I can negotiate a partial refund from the seller if it comes to that.

From what I read the limit is 512MB.
