Help with my setup

Thread Starter
Alright just posting for a 2nd opinion
wondering what you would do diffrent and if this is the best way to do this set up.

I am moving to a new place next month and want to do a nice setero/htpc setup. This is what I have or am getting (trying to avoid naming the components)

vintage turntable
Large vintage floor speakers
Vintage amp
newer amp for 5.1
HTPC
PS3
HDTV
5.1 speakers

The HTPC will have a high end sound card that will act as a DAC for RCA connection to the vintage amp. It will also have optical out to hook up to the newer receiver for 5.1 sound.

The PS3 will also hook up to the newer receiver for 5.1

The turntable will hook up to the old amp.

The large speakers will hook up to the old amp and the 5.1 to the newer one.

mostly wondering, what sound card you would use?
what software for the htpc you would use?
is there any way to make this setup easier? could i get optical in on the pc and use a pc 5.1 set up (saving cash is always good)

Thanks
Deep Green

my best bet would be to get either an Auzentech card or the x_fi titanium you already have, the titanium series are some of the best cards for HTPC usage

i would need a card that could take optical in and do 5.1 out, though sound quality is my main concern.

can a x-fi titanium (non hd) decode an optical 5.1 signal from a ps3 to a 5.1 computer speaker set?

For the HTPC to new receiver, you should use HDMI audio from the video card.

Any decent sound card should be fine for the music part to the old amp/stereo though.
