Time for my first Gaming Rig in years!! - Page 3

I wouldn't go spending all that money on an Extreme mobo, the Asus P8Z68-V Pro is more than enough http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Int...55/P8Z68V_PRO/ and its alot cheaper.

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...rd-review.html

All those extra bells and whistles on the extreme mobo are great and all, but with the Pro you will still reach high OC's and have all the fantastic features detailed in the first link.

That Asus board looks really nice, it will deff keep an eye on it.

I wanted the H100, but it cost 120$ and for 20$ extra I found this one.

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/12..._Kit-_HOT.html

What extra parts do I have to buy to cool the cpu and video card????

if you're going sandy bridge..AsRock Extreme4 (or 6?) Mobo ...boots like 3x faster than an asus..has good quality components..and about $170..crosshair 5 is $230..i know..i bypassed it and got a "sabertooth" ..the bulldozer wait is killing me..as far as PSU get a reputable 800-1050 ...the rasa 240 kit is a pretty good deal..(i'm using a homemade bong cooler with a RASA block..it's one of the best)(parts for my cooler were about $190 complete)..ram is so cheap now it feels like stealing ...oh oh..ssd is a VERY good thing..i'd recommend an agility3 (small) maybe 2 in raid 0 for OS..and 2-4 smaller hdds for storage (either raid 0 or 10) umm..you might as well go xfire/sli since you have a healthy budget..some guy's been killing the benchmarks with xfired 6790s(it's a new "budget" card..i tend to shy away from nvidia..as every one i've had died a premature death..but..there's nothing wrong with them, either

A good motherboard for the 2500k would be an ASUS P8P67 Pro, or a Gigabyte P67 UD3. I'd go with The P8P67 Pro and maybe a Radeon HD 6970. Only go with water cooling if you are comfortable, but I hear those RASA kits are pretty good.

Grand Total:$959.40
That is shipped and you can save the rest for when the full BD comes out only thing diffrent from what i built is i have 16 gb ram and a 570gtx and a 1090t (i had a little more money then you to spend )... that dual 6870's will smoke what i got honestly in raw )

hope that helps and you will after everything is said and down have a 100$ left for what ever you want ... (asuming you get the high end 8 core BD when it comes out ...)

first thing id do is ditch that X6, its nowhere near as good as 2500k. Plus when ivy bridge comes out in <12 months you can just put that in, no new motherboard, memory etc needed, just straight swap!

Going AMD now will just be more disappointing no matter how well BD's going to fair in multi-threaded apps. In 2-4 core applications, I don't think it will even get close to a 2500k build.

As the above poster said, you can also put an ivy bridge chip in a p67 and good to go. Put the rest of the budget in the rasa kit and you will have MORE FUN with your rig, water-cooling's a really fun hobby and you can tweak/mod as much as you like to your case

Good luck on the build and to the baby!
