Time for my first Gaming Rig in years!! - Page 5

Guys I wish I could tell you so much about Bulldozer right now but I can't. My cousin (who lives in dresden and works in AMD's factory over there) would be in a violation of non disclosure agreement if I tell you, but I can only tell you that the Bulldozer is well worth waiting for.

I would suggest using the best buy credit to pick up your various accessories, like the monitor (or 2), operating system, *maybe* keyboard+mouse, *maybe* gaming input devices, games you want to buy, a nice surge protector, etc etc... Anything left over just hang on to for games down the road, or when you and female companion want to pick up some movies. There are plenty of things you can get a best buy for children too.

$700 will cover the 8 components of a typical tower and it's contents and make a great gaming rig.

-----------

Intel Rig:

Asus P67 mobo + 2500K

Rosewill challenger + 530W PSU

HD + optical

2x4GB Ripjaws 1600-8-8-8
(1 day special only)

factory OCed GTX460

Total: $690 shipped.

------------

AMD rig:

Same as above but swap in AMD CPU/MOBO.

ASRock 970 and a 945 on promo special ($15 savings)

That's $565 shipped.

You can go even cheaper and still play games just fine. Basically any sandy dual or Athlon II X3 or better, combined with a 6770 or better, will play any game made reasonably well.

You have a baby on the way. My personal suggestion would be to aim for better value builds.

In your situation, I would just use the Best Buy gift card for your build. You can buy most of the parts at best buy, with the exception of CPU and Motherboard.
