hopping distros, any ideas - Page 6

Greetz
There are a number of monitors that are not properly detected especially since the increased popularity of HiDef TVs (especially cheap ones) that provide connectors that suit PCs but don't bother to actually create a proper EDID. Some skirt this expense by specifying that only the VGA connector may be used, but even that is just a hedge to get out of proper hardware/software combo to actually be PC friendly regardless of OpSys.

Furthermore adding a KVM switch, and the increased cable length that often accompanies them, seems to befuddle some systems. This seems rather random but is apparently just distributed capacitance and dependent on every component in the string in combination. Simply changing a single component out can "solve" the problem but it is easier to just specify the monitor in "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" or wherever your version of your distro now puts it.

I agree with that. I've been able to work around such with w/e OS I want to try out (further than what VM/Vbox takes it). I was just tired of swapping monitors, just so I could modify the xorg.conf just to swap it again. Several of the OS, prior to even attempting to install, showed nothing on my screen, which makes modifying anything hard lol.
