gaming ram help

ok so ive read up alot n basically came to the conclusion that anything over 8gb of ram for gaming is pointless. but would i want more if im multi tasking while playing? as in say im playing battlefield an mmo and watching a movie?
also ive been throwing around idea's of ram the mobo im getting supports 2133mhz of ram but impossible to find any ram of that speed below a 9 cas latency. would i be better off buying a 1600mhz set with a cas latency of 6? any help would be greatly apprechiated.

I have 8gigs of 1333 RAM on my Alienware, and it just flies through multitasking. I really cannot understand people who say that 12/16 gigs will let you multitask better than 8. Once you get to 8, it really doesn't matter if you go any higher. There simply is no dicernable difference. RAM speed on the other hand can make a big impact. I would say anything less than 1600 is sub-par now, with 1600 being the norm.

Now onto your question, I would personally go with the 1600mhz with CAS 6. Probably cheaper (not that RAM is pricey anyway) and I'm a CAS freak...

The best way to tell is to run all your apps and see what your memory usage is at. If you are hitting a ceiling, then you want to add more. Otherwise, you might just be spending money on something you don't need.

P.S. How can you play an MMO, BF, and watch a movie at the same time?

8gb will be enough ram.You should check and see how much you are using. Most likely under 4gb.

Higher speed ram is for people who like ram,and playing with it.There really won't be much of any noticeable difference between the two.

If you are not an enthusiast and don't care too tweak your ram, then save some money. Some crucial ballistix or g-skill 1600mhz. cas8 2x4gb would be cheap, and have great performance.

lol its not that hard. quest n play the ah in the mmo while watching the movie in between load times and respawn times in bf. not saying ull catch 100% of the movie lol.
i do plan on over clocking and tweaking the ram eventually. i do slightly consider my self some what an enthusiast. i just wasnt shure witch is acually faster lower cas or faster mhz. im putting some nice stuff in this build and wanna make shure i have the fastest i can.

Generally Intel cpu's like the higher frequency memory, rather than tighter timings, but that doesn't necessarily hold true with the Sandy Bridge cpu. DDR3-1600 looks to be the best overall choice.
