I'd like something... a little smaller than the NH-D14. - Page 2

those RAM cooling fans aren't necessary unless you plan on really overclocking your ram. Even then your ram gets incidental air flow because of your case. it has a big 200mm fan pushing air through the entire case. I personally see no need for them just the "uuUUUUuuu look at the purdy fans i have on my RAM" factor

I just recently upgraded to the Corsair 600t (free for my birthday!) and I can't use the top 200mm fan, I had to remove it to make room (sadly it doesn't go on the other side, had to resort to one 120mm fan).
Was the best Thermalright silver arrow holds that title now, even bigger/heavier but all you do with taller ram is pull pull on the heatsinks, or lift up a fan slightly, easy peasy lemon squeasy it is compatible now.
P.S. I just came from a corsair cooler (h-50), can't cool my chip down properly @4.2, 1.33v it was up to 86C and that was with tri blade deltas@3300RPM(110CFM) so I don't see anything less then the h100 with better fans cooling a high watt i7 down.

I seem to see the Nh-D14 recommended more on this forum than the Thermalright. They seem to be around the same price, but one gets better performance than the other, I wonder why that is? Maybe it might just be me though since I own a D14.

Note: these gigantic air coolers do more than cool the cpu. They have an effect on temps on other components. Many people have switched from the D14 and VX to these awesome corsair loops and found higher temps on their SB and NB.

An H60 may be able to keep a 2600K under 70C @ 4.5GHz, but were talking about putting it on a previous generation i7 proc. you will most likely go into the high 70's (at least) on an H60 with a 930 @ 4GHz

I'm aware of this. The Corsair memory fans would help with the airflow, therefore almost acting as what a standard heatsink would do to the rest of the case. Look at this: While the video is made by Crucial and they advertise their product, the facts remain the same.

I'm fine with that. I don't really care about temps too much, just as long as I can keep my 4Ghz on a stable, awesome looking machine

So, it looks like I'm planning on the Corsair H60. Thanks for your help guys! That is, unless someone has a really good reason for me not to get it.

Because it sucks?? jk

well I would look at the Kuhler 620 as well but thats just me
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...20kuhler%20620

EDIT: Fans on RAM is pointless unless your OCing a LOT. I have my 1333mhz kit running at 1666Mhz and its just slightly warmer then what they ran at stock. Also I have my friends rig here that he is picking up in a minute that is running Gskill PI ram triple channel 1600Mhz @ 2100Mhz on a i7 920 OC @ 4.2Ghz and they run quite well

just saying

While the video is made by Crucial and they advertise their product, the facts remain the same.
That video is with a standard fan in the center. the only thing those fans will work to cool is your RAM, they will NOT cool your NB or your VREG.
