They probably do have a bit of nostalgia, surely any fan would? Blizzard count on it, they use the hype and nostalgia to secure preorders. I remember the day Diablo3 was confirmed, feels like 10 years ago, but I was super psyched.

It's a double edged sword though, and while on the one hand they've tons of fans hooked on nostalgia, they've taken the art style in a very different direction, which a lot of fans don't agree with.

To me it just doesn't look as dark (and I don't mean the lighting levels) and sinister as Diablo1&2, and maybe that's not the art direction the new Diablo team wants it to go, but the dark eeriness was part of the charm in the original.

That being said, you can't really judge and compare a game that isn't out yet.

Just for me, personally, between the new art style, lackluster class videos and auction house addition on top of a very long wait, I'm not all that psyched anymore.

Why is it that everytime i read more info about diablo 3, the less i care about it.

And this is coming from someone who played D2 24/7(excluding sleep and school, kinda forgot about eating most of the time) for... i honestly do not remember how many months i wasted on it or want to remember.i was the 5th person to reach 99 and first sorc to reach 99 after a reset.

When I think about how much I am disappointed with diablo 3
* its still not even out
* 5 classes... weak
* pay to play? Wth..
* no offline mode
* no mod support
* looks like wuw
* likely will lose the dark gloomy awesome feel to the game
* still is not out

Then I just remember how awesome of a game Fallout New Vegas IS and its out, and I can go play it right now... ahhhhh... and I am still not finished with the DLC for it.. YUS.

Diablo 3? what diablo 3?

If they make a new fallout, I will buy it in half a second.

2. Yes it's lame, but i'd expect an Xpac within a year.
3. It's no more pay to play than D2 was... O_o
4. Non-factor
5. Non-factor
6. We must've played vastly different versions of WoW
7. Diablo2 wasn't very dark feeling as just dark.
8. Yes we know =(

Pretty much this. People are just not reading a lot of information right, and making ignorant decisions... especially in the case of #3 here. What the hell, pay to play?

2. Diablo 2 started with...gasp, 5 classes! ALERT THE PRESS . Blizzard will ABSOLUTELY make expansions for this, likely with more classes.

7.

Not dark.

Not dark.

REALLY not dark

Same here!

The main reason anything was "dark" in diablo 2 was because you were in caves/nests with NO LIGHTING. Forcing your own "light aura" to show anything. I for one prefer actually seeing

dark
adjective /därk/
darker, comparative; darkest, superlative

Gloomily pessimistic

I point you towards the first D3 trailer that was shown.

That isn't dark?

I was more just clarifying due to the number of people that post well lit / sunny outdoor screenshots and go, see D2 wasn't dark

WRT to your video, cinematics != ingame. Compare the wotlk intro to the actual ingame graphics.

True enough
But D3 is "dark" enough in both senses of the word regardless, Atmosphere wise, D3 probably moreso than any other.

D1: One village taken over, and mostly the underground of it.
D2: Multiple areas of the world with undead/demonic creatures.
D3: seemingly the entire world now, or at least the forces of hell truly unleashed on the world.

Yeah, it's ramped up

Hmm I've been thinking about Diablo III for a while now and at the moment it looks fun but if Blizzard wait any longer it's going to look quite dated. In terms of gameplay etc. and I think it really needs to come out now and any longer it's not going to do well in reviews, unless it's reviewed by people who have been waiting this long for it.

But hey that's just my opinion and I can only wait so long before a game doesn't look interesting anymore. I bought Starcraft 2 and stopped playing it during the first day because it just wasn't fun. I commend them for their we'll release it when it's done but that can only take you so far. Ah well it's not like my opinion matters.
