D2 was lighter in color, and also lighter in mood, but it was still a good game and the sinister element was not lost. lessened, but not lost. now D3 has not come out yet, but based on what we have seen, it appears that it is brighter in color than D1 and D2, and the graphics really do not present a sinister environment at all. this, along with several other reasons, is why people are dismayed about the upcoming D3. i hope i am making sense.
Indeed, but that's really a ridiculous notion. D1 did not have any exterior areas, so any "light" graphics that would have been are just plain not there.
D2 did, and the graphics gave it a lighter mood so to speak, but the actual STORY mood, if you look at it, is darker. A vast spread of evil that dwarfs the first game.
D3 is similar, with more exterior areas that we've seen, and with actual, NATURAL (or as much as the engine can be
) coloring to nature instead of brown castle, brown castle, black castle, dark brown castle, and so on that we know from many FPS games
However, if you look at the story, the setting is even darker. What was just a notion on the horizon in D2 is a full fledged invasion in D3. Bigger armies of demons have spread all over... if that isn't dark, I don't know what is.
I think this is a unique case of not "rose" tinted glasses, but "dark" tinted glasses while looking back at D1 and D2
