I would try it with different settings to find the best sounding one; but in my own personal opinion, any "virtual" surround sound is false. Good headphones create their own sound stage with just headphone/2.0 mode selected.

you shouldn't be using virtual speaker shift at all.

What about Dolby Headphone on while gaming? Also should I have it set to 8 audio channels or just 2?

Cuad has Realtek onboard, therefore he has poor sound. Try 2 channel with Dolby Headphone. This will give you elevation and a slight surround sound.

If you use 7.1 for a 5.1 game, you are upmixing to 7 channels, downmixing, and then hearing it in stereo.

I also recommend "headphone" or regular 2.0 settings. My SB disregarded ingame dialogs with 5.1 and some games even don´t support 7.1 so it just mutes itself. I'd recommend to try wich option suits your personal preferences and depending on the game even adjust some ingame audio settings if possible (other than audio levels ofc). Don't know much about ASUS-s other virtual enhancements (Dolby Headphone) but usually these virtualizations and shifters should only aid the performance of surround sound systems and very high and studio headphones. Try and decide by your ear I guess is the best recommendation one can give.
