Does this make sense to you?

Thread Starter
I just got in my Corsair H100, and was overclocking my 2600K, was running stable with some decent temps with the following settings:

Multiplier: 48
PLL overvoltage: OFF
LLC: Ultra High
vcore: 1.345v
VCCIO: 1.05v
CPU PLL: 1.7625v
RAM 2133mhz, 1.65v

left the computer for a bit, came back to artifacts on the screen, system still usable. promptly restored settings back to default, issue still occurred. I thought to myself, okay, I corrupted my OS by BSOD too many times while tweaking. Did a fresh re-installation, installed my video card drivers (ASUS EAH6870), artifacts return. System is unstable, video card appears to be turning off and back on.

I don't get it, I was overclocking my CPU, what does this have to do with my video card?

PSU is Seasonic X-750 gold class.
VGA is ASUS EAH6870 (ATI Radeon HD 6870)

Anyone have any thoughts?

Seems to be a GPU issue, since all your symptoms point to it. I would have to guess that your GPU needs an RMA.
Do you have another graphic card at your disposal so you can try to confirm this?

I do have an older HIS ATI Radeon HD 4670 I can use. Presently, I am using the 2600K GPU. (yay z68 chipset).

This completely sucks, video card bombed and I thought I did something wrong. None of the settings I was messing with would effect the video card right?

try reseating/reinstalling the card itself? I can't think of a reason why cpu OC settings would mess with your card... if you return bios to default does it make a difference? newer drivers? older drivers? try a different cable from your p/s? different pci-e slot?

try that other GPU as well and see what you get smile.gif

I have already attempted reseating the card. I'll try the other GPU, try swapping PSU cables, try different ports on the PSU, etc. I'll let you know what I figure out!

Thanks for the advice.

I would think you just got a bad GPU to begin with, since overclocking your CPU would not endanger your video card in anyway. In any case, tell me if the problem persists with your other video card, when you're done testing it.

Okay, so I put the 6870 back in, used a separate set of PCIE power cords on a separate PCIE port on the PSU, issue persisted. I put the GPU in my second PCIE port on the motherboard, same issue. Pulled the GPU, put in my 4670, flawless.

So it does indeed look like a faulty card frown.gif Time to get in touch with ASUS I guess.

Thanks for all the help guys.

If you overclocked the processor through the FSB , it could mess up your chipset which could in turn screw up your graphics card. I screwed my memory once, except on a P4 rig.

I have seen that happen, I feel this is not the case here.
