Low FPS in games with new GTX 580 - Page 3

The study below shows that a stock Phenom II X6 1100T is able to tun GTX570 SLI at full potential at 2560x1600.

Granted that your resolution is a graphically less demanding 1920x1080, but GTX570 SLI just has more power than your single GTX580 to compensate for the resolution upshift to 2560x1600.

Additionally, it is an 1100T at stock 3.3GHz and yours is 1090T BE is at 4GHz (which is much more powerful).
So, I do not think your CPU is much of a bottleneck, if at all. As such, even if you do not change to an i7 2600K, there is not much missed.
And, of course, an i7 2600K is an excellent CPU by any means.

chipset bottleneck. Did you disable onboard graphics?

I believe the problem was fixed, like I posted some posts back. It was due to ATI drivers still being installed.

Used ATIMan uninstaller and DriverSweeper to get rid of them.

Naw, that was a placebo effect. You believed that you'd found the problem because of all the ATI files still being on your machine, + people telling you 'that was the problem'.

But I'm here to tell ya ... I had the Catalyst and Forceware drivers both fully installed on my machine for over a month last year, swapping nV and ATI cards in and out repeatedly, running benches on both setups, trying to decide which to keep ... These driver sets don't interfere with each other at all, actually (not in Windows 7 anyway), and later tests I ran after a fresh install showed that I never lost a single FPS having them both installed.

That's why I was asking you whether you actually compared exact apples-to-apples situation in your Metro comparisons ... I have a good feeling you did not

Well my FPS increased dramatically after I got rid of the ATI drivers. I didn't do anything else to fix it.

Could be because you're using AMD CPU. The AMD video drivers used may coincide with the CPU, but with Intel, it doesn't do this. ATIMAN uninstaller has an option to remove further ATI/AMD drivers, but its only used with Intel systems, not AMD systems. Since you switched to Nvidia, it possibly could have been the left back ATI files, which some people may not have issues with them still around.
