I'll tell you guys right now this isn't actually DRM. This is so they can shut your game down when they think you have played it long enough. I'm 100% sure. Companies don't want you playing "the classics" you already paid for. They want you to always buy the next big thing.

On the topic of greed: Who is being more greedy in the case of software piracy? The company that spends it's time and money developing the product and then brings it to market in the hopes that they will make a profit? Or is it the pirate? The one who wants to benefit from the hard work and ingenuity of the developer without paying for the product? I think the answer is obvious.
If their entire point was to make money , then why not focus on developing a better product for people who actually paid for your software? Objectively , spending money to prevent piracy is about as diminishing as it gets , since you are spending real cold hard money on preventing an x number of people(realistically none) from getting your game ; y of which went and bought it instead , the profit earned from "60y"(diminishing over time) would have NEVER justified the total combined cost of preventing piracy - on top of that , that's just a rough estimation.

These business practices i have mentioned are caused by masses of weak minded individuals accepting it as the norm , these underhanded tactics are in the same moral standing as piracy to the sensible individual as piracy is to the companies.This sort of M.A.D would only escalate the other and not subdue it.Both sides are playing dirty , so its impossible to justify any of their actions.We have one charging existing consumers ridiculous unjustified amounts , while the other is "stealing" content.

In the end , you've made some good points.But the fact of the matter is that we have been shown time and time again that such DRM is about as effective as a CD key algorithm without server-side backing will just end up discouraging more people from buying it than to prevent people from pirating their game.

This Ubisoft DRM will stop me from buying FarCry 3, if it's on there, and will simply see me refusing to buy it until they remove it. Just like they removed the SecuROM from FC2 in patch 1.3. THEN I bought it. Never stopped me playing it, though

(Got the collectors box, bought brand new, just in case anyone thinks otherwise. Still wear my t-shirt!)

Ubisoft is delusional. I'm sure internally there's some strife of the matter but the corporate drum thumping will go on until they finally concede.

The pirates won. They won a long time ago. They're just wasting money with DRM upkeep.

this ain't going to stop me I am continuing to play AC no matter what DRM. As long as it ain't intrusive. I have constant internet and even if it disconnects it is already automatically saved, whats the fuss?

i have friends at ubisoft had a relative work there the salary is crap no one is grateful about you're work unless you're a higher up you can't suggest anything overtime isn't paid and if you don't do any your whole team hates you big gaming company treat there employees like crap yes programmers and QA's and designer work there ass off for the game there bonus's are skimpy they don't mind if it doesn't sell that much there happy about the work they did anyways i'm against DRMs takes money out off the game and puts it into something that gets cracked anyways and the fact that you can't play solo without interwebz sucks says i go on a road trip for couple days and i have a nice gaming laptop well now i'm screwed and can't play it. i know why they do it but its mostly more then half of the games cost that goes in DRM

I refuse to buy games with this type of draconian DRM, but many of you are calling for zero DRM while forgetting the outcome of zero DRM. A few games have tried zero DRM such as World of Goo, Sins of a Solar Empire, Prince of Persia, among others and all of them were pirated to hell and back. Yes, DRM is not what we want, but we are going to get it when we pirate the hell out of games and developers who experiment with the honor system. Minecraft is a rare exception but still being pirated.

Of course, I believe that most pirated copies were downloaded to try out the game. If developers would provide a good demo of the final game, the whole argument of "try before you buy" would collapse.
