Astrogaming A40s experience

Thread Starter
I know a couple of people on here own a set of A40s. How is your experience with them? I'm planning on buying a set of wireless A40s for mainly use for my PS3 but since I built a new PC with an optical out I could use them for that as well.

I'm interested in hearing your experience with this set and Astrogaming in general.

I thought the A 40's were great for me at the time I used them which was like a year ago. Basically all I did was play Cod and I could hear the in-game foot steps really well and that helped a lot. As far as listening to music and playing games other than Call of Duty, there kinda sucky, for lack of a better word. I'm no audiophile so I couldn't really recommend a good headset. But if you're just going to use them for playing games on the PS3, I'd save some money and get some Turtle Beaches or something like that, there a great value.

I own the astro a40 2011 edition. I love them. They sound just about the same as my brothers sennheiser 555s. I bought them because of everything they come with, and if I didn't like them, I was going to return them. But they are great, very comfortable like the sennheiser 555s. The new ear pads really did make a big difference in the sound from the old a40s. A lot of people are going to say they are gimmicky, but for everything you can use them for, they are great.

I honestly like them for competitive gaming. I haven't touched em since I stopped playing professionally. They're great quality though, amazing sound quality and they really manage the music, voices and game well. They're very high quality gaming headsets.

I have both A40 and A30 and I really like them had them for about a year. For PS3 and Xbox they are great IMO.But some people like it and some don't.But if you do purchase it you also have like a 15 day return period if you don't like it.Good Luck.

Edit:I have both wireless and wired version. And both have awesome feature but I personally like the wired a little more.I use to listen to pandora while playing COD,BFBD2,etc.Made gaming a lot better lol.

I am in this same situation. Now here is a question to the owners, how duarble are they? Would you be better off buying the seperate mix amp and getting some head phones, for example audiotechinca noise cancelling? or maybe a set of cans with a inline mic?

This. If you don't require the mic aspect, you can go for the TurtleBeach Earforce DSS. the headphones that come with the A40 are crap.

I do need the mic aspect. I'm sick of using cheap bluetooth earpieces. I want the complete experience and I need wireless. I sit to far from the TV and PS3 to have wires all through my livingroom.

I also love the custom ability of it. Custom tags look great.

I've read quite some reviews of them and they seem to be loved by many reviewers.

Thanks everyone for your opinion.

If you guys have time check their forum, there's some new member that has created the most awesome full custom headset designs. Check'm out. I need to wait for the white editions untill september anyway.

the mixamp is fine, but the headphone that comes bundled with it are a pile of crap. Really. Many people prefer paring it with their headphones instead and jsut putting a clip-on / lapel / desktop mic in the mic input.

Please don't waste money on Astro phones. By an audio standards, they're horrible.
