I notice from your previous posts that you are a fan of starcraft 2, seems kind of weird that you would get the game despite it not being on steam or does only valve and blizzard have the right to distribute their game as they see fit?
They don't force you to use a client every time you play. The system Blizzard games use is Battle.net, for comms and such, everything else is ingame.

You have to understand the difference here.

Makes perfect sense from a business standpoint, I agree fully. Competition is good also - it's just too bad BF3 has to be on the leveraging end of potentially making Origin popular.

Steam is your favourite music shop. You always buy from the same store and have great history, friends and get great prices, most better than any other shop. You're looking at this really nice MW2 guitar so you pick it up and ask the storeowner some about it, he says, "Well man the guitar has this one flaw with the pickups, otherwise it's a really fine piece of work". You give the guitar a whirl and enjoy playing it.

So you take the MW2 guitar over to the counter and pay for it, on the counter you see a flyer for another guitar, the BF3 guitar. Great looking guitar but it's not out yet. The storeowner mentions that he doesn't actually sell it, and you have to drive 30 miles out of town to buy it from the back of a manufacturing depot owned by the people who make the guitar this guitar has proprietory connections and can't be hooked up to any amp, and every time you want to play the guitar you have to drive 30 miles out of town where you have no contact with your friends, so you can play it on their amps.

A bit rough towards the end but you get the point. Steam got there first, it's too late for another DDL client.
You pretty much failed at your analogy when you began to equate driving thirty miles to buy a guitar, to ordering with a different website/client, simply because it's not named "steam". Using a different client equates to a relative 30 miles for you?

You also failed when you equated driving 30 miles to play a guitar, to clicking an icon labelled "Origin" instead of "Steam". Clicking a different Icon is the equivalent of driving an extra 30 miles to get to the same game for you? I can see why it would be a problem then lol.

I can see what you were trying to do, but it didn't really work.

Also, I bought Battlefield 2142 on Origin FOUR YEARS AGO.

The difference between now and then? Origin was called "EA Downloader" and there was no friends list.

Why would this happen?

What EA will lose if BF3 stays off Steam: A bunch of whiners with 2+ghz systems and 4+gb of ram who can't adapt to having ONE MORE platform from which to launch and/or buy their games

This comparison is absurd. No contact with your friends? You will still be on the same internet, and all of your "friends" who are playing BF3 will be on Origin, too.

My outlook on what will happen: EA will come crawling back to Valve, BEGGING for them to reconsider their terms. Valve will reject, EA will go through with it and offer BF3 on Steam with future DLC sold on Steam as well. I seriously don't understand EA's big deal about this. They sell the Vietnam and SPECACT DLC on Steam for BC2.
True, but any money that would have been in Steam's pocket will now be in EA's.
