What EA will lose if BF3 stays off Steam - Page 8

Most of the people complaining about steam will get over it and buy BF3 eventually..

Besides, I'm one of those people who are used to having multiple accounts for everything. My username is always the same, so its not hard remembering the 3 passwords I have for multiple accounts.

Edit** Still..It would be nice if they allowed it to be on Steam, Therefore increasing sales and allowing more ease to the game.

Origin would be another stupid account i have to remember. Steam, various mmos, various forums and websites. Everything nowadays requires you to have a stupid account.

I don't want to remember any more accounts if I don't have to. Therefore, I'm not interested in buying a digital copy of bf3. Not to mention, all of my pc gaming friends have a steam account. Why sign up for another service when all of my friends and games are on steam?

This whole origin idea seems very silly.
In a way Origin is much better than steam. With origin you don't have to have the client running when you launch a game, it's only for downloading the game and activating it. imo origin is much less intrusive than steam. And let's be honest here, since the client doesn't have to be running while you play, the only resource that it's going to take are the few MBs from your hard drive, not such a bad thing...

Besides if people really want to play BF3 they can walk/take a bus/ drive to a nearby store and buy a retail copy if they are afraid of ordering from origin. I still prefer retail copies, since I like to get boxes and manuals with my games and for BF3 I have a preorder with my local Gamestop.

tl;dr: Don't want to use origin? Buy retail and add the game shortcut to steam.

Honestly, if you're buying an EA game at all, using Origin to download it seems relatively insignificant. The only objection I would have is if I had some huge social network built up on Steam that I couldn't use with Origin and BF3. Since I do not, this whole argument seems stupid.

No matter how and where EA decides to sell BF3, the game is going to fly off the (metaphorical) shelves.
The only reason the game will not be on steam is because EA doesn't want valve to get a cut of its sale via steam. Their argument that the reason they are doing this is to provide a better experience to their customers is weak at best. They have use that argument to support their DRM policies.

It seems that most gamers, including 'hardcore' gamers, do not care about the direction that the pc gaming market is headed. Companies care about money, and they only way to send them a message is with your wallet. The hardcore seem so desperate for new products to care about anything else.

Battlefield 3 certainly looks like a great game. However I do not look forward to the day when I need to have a separate download client for every publisher, not to mention a separate friends list etc.

If you have BFBC2 or some other 'recent' EA title with multiplayer you have an EA account as well. This is the same account you use to log in to origin so you really don't have to make a new one.

Besides if you ever have trouble with your accounts EA has much better customer service than steam...

For me, personally, it's not that I dislike Origin, it's that I like Steam.

I prefer having my system as clean as possible with as few as possible programs using up system resources (msconfig ftw). Obviously, for a person like me, one download manager\\games library is better than two, or three, or four.

Thirdly, Steam has benefited from years of testing and improvement. Origin will have teething troubles. It will have bugs. EA will 'forget' that you bought some games. They will double charge you. They will put you through to customer service in India and make you wait a week for a resolution to your problem. They will make you buy the Limited Edition of medal of honour, in return of 48 measly hours of early access to the month-long OPEN Beta of BF3.

I will start using Origin once it's a reputable service. At the moment it can't hold a candle to Steam, and I will explore other alternatives.

Depends.

Do you want to play Battlefield 3?

The massive, massive irony is that the very same steam powered Valve pioneered the direction of digital download service that EA would like to try for themselves.

Want to blame anyone for EA attempting something Valve did when they were starting up?

Blame Valve/Steam.
