Hi there,

I have a choice of a few different brands/type of RAM and I'd like your advice on what to get.

The choices are the following:

8GB Mushkin Redline #997007 (2x4GB) DDR3 1866MHz 9-10-9-27 - £79.99
8GB Mushkin Blackline #997015 (2x4GB) DDR3 2133MHz 10-11-10-28 - £69.95
8GB Mushkin Blackline #996995 (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 £39.95
8GB Mushkin Redline Ridgeback #996982 (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz 7-9-8-24 - £84.67
G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit - £59.99

Which would be the best choice?

Is the 2133MHz really worth the extra cash?

I'd like to overclock it a bit if possible to increase performance.

Help would be much appreciated.

EDIT: PROPOSED BUILD

Intel i5 2500K @ 4.5Ghz (at least)
EVGA Z68 FTW Motherboard
ASUS DirectCUII GTX580 1.5GB
Corsair H70 Cooler (Can be changed)
128GB Crucial M4 SSD
1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3
Corsair AX850 Modular PSU
Silverstone Fortress FT02B-W

It depends on what cpu you have and how much you intend to OC and is you have locked multiplier. Fill in your rig so we can see what you are running or is this a new build?

Edit: I voted 8GB Mushkin Redline Ridgeback 1600MHz 7-9-8-24 as they are a good up to pretty high OC even if you have a locked multiplier and the low latency is nice. But if you really are just after a small bump say 2.8 GHz to 3.2 GHz or something like that go for the cheap 8GB Mushkin Blackline #996995 (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 £.

It's going to be a new build - I'll add the components to OP.

The Intel i5 2500K has an unlocked multiplier so you should be able to hit your oc target wit the ram @ sub 1600 MHz speeds. So no need for the super high MHz rams. I say go for the cheapest one. You should take a look at other peoples rigs to see what they are running. wink.gif

The set of G.Skill you posted is your best choice. Not just because of it's speed, or timings, but it's operating voltage is 1.5 volts, and that is what you want for a Sandy Bridge build!

If you'd like to read up on the best ram, look at this post and read the linked information, and his summery conclusion.

@ Bit_reaper
He would be best off with memory that runs on stock voltage of 1.5 volts or less.
