Which CPU to choose?

Thread Starter
I'm wishing to upgrade my Emd620-ms2257's CPU since its getting slow and old (Athlon 2650e 22w @ 1.6Ghz).

I was looking around and I now know that a similar model, the 5777 can take the following cpu:

Athlon 64 x2 4050e 45w @ 2.1Ghz for ~30$ on starmicro

Athlon 64 x2 3250e 22w @ 1.5Ghz for ~35$ on starmicro

Athlon Neo x2 6850e 22w @ 1.8Ghz for 75$ on ebay

Which one sounds like the best idea? According to a forum I found this notebook can take up to 65w TDP (Using AS5) but they recommend not to exceed 45w.

I guess i could maybe overclock the 3250e to 1.8Ghz but I doubt I could do it since my overclocking skills are pretty... Well inexistent.

EDIT: OH IT's a laptop, hum.... I have no idea sorry.

Stay away from the Neo. It was a failed Atom-competitor.

I'd say go for the 4050 if that's the highest-clocked CPU you can get. But personally I'd look at replacing the laptop.
my vote is for the 4050e

it's not worth putting much more $$ in to that laptop

I don't feel comfortable flashing the BIOS with al of those warnings they write about flashing BIOS.

Yes it is AM2. Athlon II's TDP is 65w which is really high for that small notebook.

Don't worry about bios flashing. And.. AM2 platform on laptop? :O
post #8 of 17
Actually its most likely socket S1G1 or S1G2.

Edit
Nevermind, never seen AM2 in a lappy before..

Nope its AM2. I checked inside and its really an am2 socket with just a low power desktop chip inserted. Someone even managed to run this laptop with an athlon 64 x2 5600+ but that was really hard on the battery.
