ATI HD 3450 Resolution help

Thread Starter
Okay, so I work in a lab and we recently got a 30" Dell (3007) Monitor for better resolutions since we do a lot of microscope work. The computer we're using has an ATI HD 3450 graphics card, and when we hook up the 30" Dell monitor, we can't set the resolution to max (2560x1600).

I'm running dual screens on the desktop, and am using a VGA splitter to hook up the 2 monitors to the computer. The other monitor is a 22".

Now, I've updated all drivers ect ect and still can't set the resolution to 2560x1600... Is it the graphics card that is the problem? Do we need to order a new card? If so, which one (cheapest one possible since we'd like to save as much money as possible).

Help me OCN! I'm stuck.

Yes, that resolution isn't even available. The highest one available is 1280 or something, def much below what the monitor is capable of. Here is a link to the monitor we purchased:

Okay, so we have a dvi splitter connected to the card, which splits the single port into 2 dvi ports. The monitors are then connected via the DVI cables.

Hmm.. I thought the 3450 could support 2500x1600 if you connected it using a dual link DVI cable... The splitter we're using has dual-link DVI-I ports and the cables we're using are also DVI-I Dual-link cables. The actual video output port on the card is a DMS-59...

Computer is pretty new too. It has an i5 running win 7 and was manufactured only a year ago.

On the ATI specs website, it states under one of the benefits (and also under the tech specs) that the card can display resolutions up to 2560x1600.

Damn Dells....

+rep for trying, thanks guys, we're still working on this.. can't move forward in our study until its resolved.

Can you set custom resolution? I had mine set to 1366x720 our something like that a few years back on an old LCD screen.

We have tried several times with just one screen -- no luck. We have also tried manually setting the resolution -- however, for the manual settings you have to select from a listing of resolutions -- and the 2500x1600 is not even listed.
