Any Web Developers out there? Profession Question

This may not be the proper place to ask, but I couldnt find a good spot.

I have a passion for computers and I was looking to possibly get into the technical field and I wanted to chat with a Web Developer (someone in the field) and ask how to approach learning coding on the side.

Currently I graduated college with a Bachelors of Architecture and I am a Drafter. I was thinking night classes for a certification, I dont know if I wanted a full fledged degree.

I am also interested in IT aswell and wouldnt mind hearing from someone in that field as well.

Advice much Appreciated!

Good place to start is here, http://www.w3schools.com/

I started off with networks and ended up going into web design and coding, currently studying programming now.

don't take classes on Coding, half the time the instructors don't know what they really want to teach, sure they might know it but teaching it can be hard, also I agree with the links they posted, it help, but you have to be self motivated to do it so good luck

Id say I have a decent drive to do this. I mean I dont intend to make it a career path, but side work/personnal use. I have an online resume www.ArchitectureByJM.com that needs alot of love if I ever plan on showing it off at an interview.

Would you guys recommend the books they sell? Any extra content or easy of learning? Or just do it straight off the web site (same thing but free)?

Another good resource is http://net.tutsplus.com and their beginner series http://net.tutsplus.com/tag/basix/

I think the best way to learn is to actually create your own website. I took a few classes at a community college when I was first learning web design/development and the classes were so basic that I outpaced it easily and they were too focused on the tools(Dreamweaver,Flash, etc.) rather than learning the foundation (HTML,CSS,Javascript)
Also, like anything with the web; real world outpaces the classroom. I still still outdated classes all the time.

If you are self-motivated, pick up a book on which part of web development you want(design, HTML/CSS, PHP, ASP.NET, Ruby, Javascript, etc.) to get started and look through tutorials online.

Which part of development are you interested in, there's tons of books for each topic (HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, ASP.NET, Ruby, SQL, etc.)
