Please Help...Gaming Interest Being Ruined?

This is more of a comment with a question at the end.

Don't get me wrong, I love all the deals on games because of Steam, GOG, Impulse and others. I have infinitely more games than I can ever possibly play. But I've noticed in the past year, I'm just not excited to 'game' very much.

My gaming time consists of about 6 hours on the weekend and holidays, so it was always very special to me. It was so limited so I appreciated that time very much.

Lately, I feel overwhelmed with my game selections. I always jump on a deal because I always think, hey 50-75% off on a good title is crazy value. Its like 2 or 3 gallons of gas vs. hours and hours of entertainment. But the problem is, I'll never get to most of them now. In the past i had fewer games, even ones that were 'meh', but I was forced to play them (unless they were really bad) and install mods. So I usually finished all games or at least played them for hours and weeks and sometimes months.

Now, I barely play a game for a few hours because I want to try something else I downloaded, and then the same cycle. And I look back on my game time over the weekend, and I don't feel very fulfilled. I even go to bed earlier because I just don't feel like playing into the wee hours.

Does anyone have advice on how to fix this? I love PC Gaming, been doing it for almost 20 years. I don't want to 'loose' it.

The way I have always played PC games is by only buying games that I think will last, and that I will enjoy for a long time. I never jump on any Valve sale unless it is for one of those games, and have in fact only bought two or three games through a Valve sale ever.

I've seen value in games like Counter-Strike, TF2, Starcraft 2, and Warcraft 3. And what I've discovered from only investing my time and money into very few games is that most new games that come out are incredibly poorly designed, and short-lived. They are replaced by identically bad games within 3 months, and I am glad every time that I didn't waste my money.

In the meanwhile, I'm still playing CS and TF2, as well as my newest addition, Starcraft 2, which I got a year ago.

Eh, I think everyone gets to this point. Been happening to me for a while now. I have a rotation of games it seems. I played New Vegas for hours upon hours, then finished the game and got bored. Went on and played other stuff. Dead Money came out, had a renewed interest in NV played more, put more mods on, then got bored.

Went back to Minecraft for a while, had a small personal server running, got bored, stopped playing.

Started playing Assassin's Creed II, months after I bought it on a Steam sale, put over 30 hours into it now, got bored, stopped playing.

Like I said, I kinda have a rotation of games right now. Minecraft, New Vegas, Assassin's Creed 2, Shift 2, Dead Space 2.

I have 212 games on Steam, and I play about 4 of them at the moment, with about 30 installed.

I end up spending more time staring at my games list than I do playing them sometimes.

My advice would be to find a few games you like, and kinda rotate through them. Play one till you're bored of it, then switch to another. Once you've gone through a whole rotation, the game you started on is more fun again.

Just let it go for a while. Find something else to do (get outside, exercise, whatever) and don't try to make yourself game. Come back after a while and play an old favorite of yours or find something new worth playing.

I've gotten almost 6 years of addiction fun out of CS:S so far, if you fall in with a friendly community full of active players who are all bent on being the best you'll never get bored.
Personally, the social side of gaming makes it for me.
Talking away on Teamspeak with my clan or playing with RL friends whose reactions I can guess makes the whole thing more enjoyable and gives me someone with a face to compete against, rather than just playing against the internet in general.
What kinds of games are you into?

Why don't you try an MMO?

Even if you have limited time to play, you're still going to be progressing on your character.

I'm also on limited time but I still play WoW (about 10-15 hrs a week). Although all I do is just 10 hours of arena (competitive pvp) and that's it lol.
