Core i5-760 4GHz OC Safe Voltages?

Hey everyone,

I've recently upgraded my computer to 8GB (4x2GB) Corsair Dominitor GT 2000MHz by adding other, identical Corsair kit (Yes I know, mixing RAM kits is bad!)

Everything is running fine at stock speeds as its all passed various Memtest86+, Prime95, LinX tests and appears to be running fine with my 4GHz OC but I'm a bit worried about my voltages.

Before the upgrade I had it running at 4GHz using a 200MHz BCLK and 20x Multiplier, using the voltages of VCore: 1.275v, IMC: 1.175v and DRAM: 1.65v. Once I've upgraded to 8GB I've got it running at the same 4GHz using the same 200MHz BCLK and 20x Multiplier, along with the same voltages for VCore and DRAM but I've had to knock the IMC voltage upto 1.275v to achieve a 100% stable OC.

I knew that I would need to push a bit more power through the IMC to handle the additional modules but I'm a bit worried that 1.275v is a bit high and could damage my processor or motherboard.

Can anyone please advise of the safe voltages that you can run a 1st Gen Core i5 system for 24/7 use (Computer is on 24/7 but most of the time CPU will be idle)?

I've attached a current screenshot showing it running Prime95 with the current voltages and temps being displayed in AIDA64 Extreme Edition (New version of Everest Extreme Edition), as you can see even though I have set the voltages in the BIOS the IMC is apparently using 1.300v according to AIDA64, and this can jump between 1.288-1.325v.

If anyone can let me if these voltages will damage my computer or just help me out with any advice I'd appreciate it!

Thanks Dopamin3, I've actually spent the past hour reading even more threads and posts on this site and it seems that 1.3v is acceptable.

I've actually just had to push the IMC voltage upto 1.2825v as 20mins after that screenshot core 4 stopped with a rounding error. AIDA is reporting that it's actually running around 1.32-1.34v under full load, is it normal for such an increase when running Prime95?

Also, loving your sound card model, sums up the sell-out quite nicely!

1.4 is acceptable with decent cooling, i wouldn't go over that though

Well it decided to fail again at 1.2825 so I knocked it upto 1.3 and it failed again!

I've decided to redo my overclock starting fresh instead of around the figures I used before so I'm using Sizzzles guide and working through it.

I also decided to check what socket my motherboard has so removed my cooler to find there is no brand name anywhere on the socket! It doesn't say Foxconn or Lotes so does anyone know how else I can find out?!

After reseating my cooler I've managed to get my temps down even lower which is great, idle a30C and during IBT its only hitting 55-60C, that was before I reset the old OC with the higher voltages.

Anyways, I'll update when I get this thing running stable lol. As a side note as I'm still reading Sizzzlers guide, how do you know when failing Prime95 whether it's being caused by the CPU or RAM? Is it literally if it's passing Small FFTs but failing Blend it's more than likely your RAM (IMC/VTT) whether if it's failing Small FFTs its the CPU (VCore)?

blend test with sandy bridge has been such a pain for me, i need to bump my vcore up so much to pass the 1344 fft,

124 and 101 bsod errors for me mean vcore, ive never had any problem with ram voltage or vccio,

small fft i'd assume is similar to ibt, purely processor power, however with the i-series blend seems to be a bit of a problem, vcore can stil be a problem even if you have enough in intelburntest,

it's a lot easier to test vccio and ram voltage though that it is to test huge bumps in vcore, so i'd be sure to test those first,
