Tough decision

Thread Starter
Ok guys I've been thinking alot. I was wondering how much would I benefit if I upgrade from my GTX 480 Fermi OC to 850/2000 to a GTX 580? Would I see much of a difference? I've also been thinking if I don't get the 580 I might just SLI the 480. So what do you think is a better decision?
The upgrade won't be a huge boost in performance, but IIRC it does run a little cooler.

I would be more likely to SLI 480's than swap to a 580 if the performance of a single 480 is insufficient.

its exactly the same a 580 but with 32 extra cuda cores and the only increase in games is about 10-15 percent which is pretty much nothing

I would rahter wait till the next nvidia GPU will be out.
Ex. upgrade 1st gen to 2nd gen isn't worth it.
But an upgrade to 1st gen to 3rd, would be , IMO, a way better move

If you want to buy now, i would sell your 480 and get a 580. Dont forget that you only have a 750w PSU.

You wont upgrade, going from a 480 to a 580 is like a side grade, other then lower temps, less fan noise, and lasting longer in the PC market. For a performance boost the SLI 480 option will be a lot better, but if going this route will require a new 850W PSU.
You will most likely see a decrease in temps, but I would stick with the 480.
Yeah, I agree w/the others ... not worth the net cost. Heck you could get another 480 for less net cost, and 480's in SLI will destroy a single 580. 580 is only like 6% faster, clock for clock, vs. a 480.

SLI 480's are very hot and loud though, be forewarned. You better be able to set them up with at least one empty slot between them, preferably 2.

And if you run 'em on a 750W PSU you will probably need to leave the cards 'stock' ... which is still plenty of gfx power, believe me (and that cuts down on the temps/heat/noise quite a bit vs. OC'ing them), but ... that's just something you should consider in the equation.

I definitely wouldn't upgrade from a 480 to 580 though ... the cost is way too high vs. the benefit you'd see (which will be minimal aside from the card being cooler/quieter).

Not worth it m8, the GTX 580 is for those who upgrade from 2xx series or from GTX 450/460. Your best bet is Kepler early next year.

Don't want to hijack OP's thread but would upgrading from gtx460 to gtx560 ti be 'side ugrade' or 'upgrade' ?
