0xc00000e9 Error, can't re-install windows

Thread Starter
Hello all. I was just playing a game and it crashed (black screen, ctrl-alt-del didn't work) so i pushed the reset button. Then i got that error, looked it up and i tried to repair windows through the DVD but no luck, after "Windows is loading files", the starting windows screen crashed and no i am stuck in this loop. If i don't boot from DVD i get "A disk read error occured. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.
I will unplug the main HDD and try again. Could it be something else?
Edit: Just unplugged the main HDD (One of the 500GB) and i got into windows installation. RMA Time?
2nd Edit: Just plugged my HDD as an external (with the aid of the thing inside the external 3.5" HDDs that converts them to external) and it works fine.
What is the problem?

If you plug that troublesome drive in to a different SATA port, with a different cable, does it still cause issues? Also, while it's plugged in externally you should run some S.M.A.R.T. tests and see how the drive is doing.

i agree with Razinhail.

if you can plug the hdd and use it via external, then go ahead and use HD Tune Pro to see the stability of the drive as well as search for bad sectors

if anything, reset your bios, also try new sata cables and different sata ports on the motherboard. one of those might be faulty rather than the hdd.

good luck!

I reseted the BIOS and now i connected it with a different sata cable.
Waiting for Windows installation now.
I already formatted the drive and that made it possible to start windows installation. Could it be something like a virus that infected the HDD?
I mean is that possible?

This happened to my dads old laptop, and my brothers netbook the other day. It most likely the HDD, the SSD died on his netbook which gave him the disk read error, same with the laptop.

It's the HDD, maybe the motherboard.

possible? yes. probable? no. if you really think it's a virus. i suggest you burn a CD with activediskclean

Link

and what it does is it goes and rewrites 0s on your hdd making your hdd clean slate.

i suggest you do this and then install your OS

Changed the cable, no errors now, probably the port or the cable.

It is possible that you caught some malware that put a curse on you. What anti-virus do you run for live (or "Real-Time Protection" as it's more commonly called) and do you use a separate one for scanning and virus removal?

Malware can make hardware do some crazy things at times.

Let us know how the S.M.A.R.T. test turns out.

EDIT - Damn I need to type faster! lol It sounds like you have the problem narrowed down. Congrats But I'd still do a S.M.A.R.T. test just to be sure the HDD is ok.

It's much more likely the drive than the motherboard. You'll have to see what happens after re installing windows
