My first Build

Thread Starter
Hello all,
this is my first build - I would like to stay within a good budget and have been researching for some time now. Here is what I have so far - Im going Sandy Bridge

i5 2500k
Asus P8P67 B3 Pro OR Gigabyte Z68 UD4
Patriot G2 Series 8GB DDR3 PC3 12800
EVGA GeForce GTX 550ti SSC
Corsair CX600 PSU
500 GB 7200 HHD
Thermaltake V4 BE
Windows 7 Home
NZXT Sentry II Fan Controller
Thermaltake Frio OR Thermalright SilverArrow
20" Samsung LED Screen

I am looking at SLI just since I plan to run dual GTX550s soon.
Any opinions? I am trying to stay under a grand in total investment...

Azza, it is against the ToS afaik to speak about pirating software. Buy windows, support the programmers, or utilize one of the many free linux distros.

On topic, the build looks good. Although I think you can buy a better case for the money. Like the Cooler Master HAF 912. Just for air flow's sake.

I would lose the fan controller unless you are gonna be changing the speed all the time. Get a case with an integrated one.

I know it looks pretty cool but I would get a better HAD or an SSD.

I am not sure about this, so maybe someone can confirm it but if you plan to go SLI in the future make surge your psu will be able to handle it.

No need for the fan controller - It's better off to find a case with an integrated one, as CBZ323 said. I'm sure a good 500-550W PSU will power that system just fine. Also, look into getting a SSD (I will only ever get one for Games storage, and an OS Boot for WEI (Windows Experience Index) just to show off I have a 7.6 on the HD operations. xD

Do u plan on OC? No? Then get a 2300 not 2500k .... been reading when it come to gameing they stand almost idenical and less money spent .... then you should also loss the fan controler and then get one intergrated in the case OR just get a motherboard that has enough on the motherboard for how ever many fan u have and not worry to much lol

I would get the 560 ti and a better hdd or SSD u should be able to do all this and more under a 1k ... want links???

CANT.... RESIST!

You have a run on sentence. Fix it so everyone can understand what you are saying.

Lol, Just kidding about the buttkick

EDIT: Also, PLEASE Don't use shorthand. It tends to annoy many people, including me for one.

In my opinion if you are going to get an ssd it would be for the OS and not for games. If you have good ram and processor your games will load just fine.
By installing the OS in a ssd your computer will boot incredibly fast.

Less than 60gb should be fine, install the programs games and store the documents in a hdd. It is recommended to have some spare space in the ssd and not to max it out.

@ Jakeduphard - I have looked at the GTX 560 - after rebate its only a few bucks ($30) than the 550ti... has good benchmarks scores - I do plan to overclock and looking at CPU fans now. One of my friends bought the Thermalright Silver Arrow and I wanted to see how its working for him - he has the same system for the most part. I will be getting an SSD eventually. Also - sure links are always grand!
