Take a step back and look objectively for a moment.

Apple has made innovations, yes. I will never argue that Apple has never created an innovative product. No one can argue that their marketing is anything but top-notch.

However, iOS is extremely similar to Palm OS in many ways. The swipe-to-unlock screen was even an app for my Palm IIIe I had way back when PDAs were still black-and-white.

The tablet shape has been out for years, however Windows tablets were only used in specific business situations. They were just the first to take the simplicity of a cell phone, and simply enlarge it (ever seen an iPad taken apart?).

If I were to give Apple a broad credit for something, it would be that they are good at taking a product that tends to be only used by tech nerds and business men with specific needs, and bring it to the consumer in a very simplified, and attractive, package.

This patent lawsuit nonsense they are pulling... is 100% BS. You cannot patent something that has already been implemented. It's amazing to me that they won even a preliminary injunction.

They also waited too long to sue. If they were adamant about protecting their patent, they would have struck down the first attempts at emulating the iPhone/iPad. Instead, they waited until they were pressured by their competitors, and this is their defensive reaction to a falling market share.

You are correct, apple does not structure it's business model like that of Intellectual Ventures, because it does produce (quality) product from time to time.

I am still of the belief that Apple is a patent troll, things like touch gestures and a rectangular design should not be patentable, and apple holds MANY more ridiculous patents than just those. The hardware used to capture said multi-touch or an exact replica of the external design would be permitted, in my eyes.

These patent wars are hurting my bottom dollar(wallet), and stifling innovation for my favorite segment of the market. I'm tired of it, and it just further increases my dislike of any company that proceeds to troll the patent office in any country.

Suggest you look up the true definition of patent trolling. Then when you're done, come up with another attack on Apple, because Apple is in no way a patent troll. They're just not, as I've explained countless times on this forum.

While I understand the need for that, what intellectual property do they actually have?

The rectangular shape of their tablets that has been in use for years on various tablet designs?

The capacitive touch screens that arrived on POS terminals before they were ever on a cell phone, let alone a tablet?

None of these patents are valid due to prior art. I imagine that if Samsung has half a lawyer they can argue that the patent is too generic to be enforced.

This is like a fashion designer patenting a "style." Technology has a style, look at the evolution of computers. They went very quickly from utilitarian to basically accessories for your person or home. We will see these styles cycle just like we see clothing styles cycle.

No offense to you, but you're not in any position to make that determination, and neither am I or anyone else on this forum. You guys presume WAY too much. Whatever patents a company is awarded deserve to be defended. Is the system messed up? Sure it is and these companies are just playing the game. It is what it is.
