This is the problem with Google as well as most Android device manufacturers. They ignore patented ideas and just do whatever the hell they want, then them and their fanboys whine like little girls and Google goes crying to the government because they didn't bother to see if their product was in violation of patented technologies, and then they call these patents "bogus" despite the fact that they hold similar patents and attempted to purchase similar patents (and in the case of the Nortel patents, they only cried foul after Apple, Microsoft, and Oracle outbid their pi billion bid and then said they were conspiring to destroy Android despite the fact that Google was invited to join that very consortium).
I mean, come on. If you cannot acknowledge that the iPhone and iPad are the reason modern smartphones and tablets look the way they do, then you are terribly biased. Did they borrow from some older devices? Yes. But they revolutionized those markets in such a way that no competitor has done since then, instead creating near identical clones with a slightly different UI skin. There's actually evidence to back this up; before the iPhone came out Android prototypes looked very similar to BlackBerries. After the rise of the iPhone, the first Android phone came out and it copied the look and feel and attempted to copy the UX, and of course they added a physical keyboard to some models (common complaint about the iPhone when it first came out) which, after the iPhone 3G and 3GS gained all the world's attention, proved to be unnecessary.
This is merely a case of Apple's patented technologies being protected in court.
And to those of you calling Apple a patent troll, you should be ashamed of yourselves. BY DEFINITION, APPLE IS NOT A PATENT TROLL.
A patent troll does not make use of their patented technologies in a product or service, rather just owns the patents and gets all their revenue from suing over them. If you still think Apple's a patent troll, then you're an idiot.
And also consider that Apple is being sued by more companies than it is suing, and every single lawsuit filed against them except for one by a small patent troll and two counterclaims was filed prior to Apple suing Samsung and HTC.
And seriously, you people act like this is something between individuals who have little to gain from the situation. THIS JUST IN! COMPANIES ARE TRYING TO MAKE MONEY!

Stop making apple your scapegoat on the patent issue. The patent issue, not apple, is to blame.
This is the undeniable truth.Edited by Usario - 8/9/11 at 2:55pm
