Need help with purchasing new ram!!

Thread Starter
So i currently have 6GB of Gskill ripjaws running at 1600Mhz and i wanted to buy another 6GB kit to upgrade to 12GB but they no longer sell the same 6GB kit that i currently have. The store does sell the same ram, the ripjaws, but in a 12GB kit, is it okay to have 18GB of ram?? or what other ram could i buy to get me to 12GB and still have them oc'ed to 1600Mhz??? Or not confuse my system..... or myself, i like to have all the same

It's okay to run a 6GB kit with a 12GB kit together. When purchasing the new memory, make sure it's rated at the same settings even though it's a different kit. Like if the kit you have is rated 1600mhz 9-9-9 @ 1.5v, make sure the new kit you get has the same 1600mhz 9-9-9 @ 1.5v rating. And just keep in mind when populating so many slots, you're going to need to increase the QPI/DRAM voltage in your bios a good bit to stabilize everything.

i would seriously try to find ram that runs at the same speeds and definitely the same volts.

link to your ram? hen we can find you a better suitable replacement. btw why do you need 12gigs? 6 is plenty.
