Help overclocking first system.

Thread Starter
So, with the help of many overclock.net members, I have recently built my first desktop computer I've been very happy with it so far, but know that overclocking would help a ton. I know that there is already a post on "How to overclock a Phenom II X4 955," but I would love some personalized help, especially as I have never overclocked before. If you need the idle and loud temps, I'm sure I can get those. I would like to OC the CPU to 3.6GHz, for now at least.

Thank you in advance!

Well, download CPU-Z and HWmonitor for starters. Then Prime95 for stress testing and run the "blend" test for 10 minutes so we can get an idea about you temps.

Okay, they're all installed. Prime95 is asking me to join "GIMPS," should I?

What information do you need from CPU-Z and HWmonitor?
This isn't a Black Edition right? You should overclock the CPU and the CPU-NB

Just start upping the base clock. Lower the HTT multiplier so you don't end up any higher than stock. Also lower your memory setting so you don't end up getting memory crashes and think it's the CPU

It is the BE, is that a problem.

How do I do all that? What is a HTT multiplier?
ok, good to know

with the BE, just up the CPU multiplier and later the CPU-NB multiplier increasing voltages if needed

you should be able to see all this in BIOS

Okay, so is a 80+ certified 530w continuous PSU good enough to overclock it?
more than enough.
