only other reason why T2 doesn't play 1080p is it doesn't have NEON instruction sets unlike the exynos and the TI OMAP 4xxx series
The transformers have HDMI out ports.

Also remember that the Tegra 3 may be overkill for Android OS, but on Windows 8, I imagine we'll be able to use it to it's full potential rather easily.

On honeycomb, T2 is definitely being utilized. The T3 will be faster. Besides, there are more reasons to want T3 than smooth UI. I encourage you to check out nVidia's browser demo for one.

EXTREME LAG and frame drops lol.
This. That's what T3 will fix however. Between a much faster processor and the NEON module, video will be a dream on it.

One word. HDMI.

Besides, you're correct, nVidia was stupid for not including NEON. T3 has NEON. Another reason to be happy about T3.

Like above. It's all about NEON support.

Unless you name an app besides dice player?
Junk the Tranformer and get a Acer Iconia W500 running Win7, a bit heavier and bulkier but will play pretty much all video format you can usually play on a PC including high bitrate 720/1080p mkv and full size DVD ISO.

Beats the purpose of a tablet. This is also the reason why I still haev my mini311.

I think hardware decoding of AC3 audio in mkv files would be the only thing--but I don't know if that's a complete inability of the hardware to handle, or simply because the support for it hasn't been integrated (for whatever reason).

Otherwise, agreed, for the moment, and the practical usage considerations for current tablets, even tegra 2 is more than sufficient. I wouldn't want to migrate to kal-el (or whatever the variant will be) at the expense of battery life.

I've been reading that it should be equivalent or greater battery life.

Except the iconia W500 has ubercrap battery life. And it's not just "a bit" heavier and bulkier--it's A LOT heavier and bulkier. It's nearly 3/4 of a pound heavier, and when you're talking about only 1.5lbs for the TF, that's pretty hefty to have to lug around.

I was torn between the W500 and the Transformer, and those were the biggest factors in choosing a TF over the iconia. Yes, you can do virtually anything that any other windows system can do with the W500. I loved the idea of being able to do "anything" with it--but having to juice back up with only 4-6 hours of use (if you're lucky) is a major turn-off, especially for long airline flights--that's no better than a regular laptop. When it comes down to it, tablets are still portable media/entertainment devices, not productivity machines. Only 4 hours of HD video playback on the iconia vs. 8 on the TF--not really a question in that case.

I came close to holding out for it, but I got the Tab and traded for the TF1+Dock during the $100 off at staples. I'll probably sell it for the TF2 when it comes out That's the big tablet I want.

I think it's more like 1.6lb vs 2.2. Yes heavier but still manageable. I was given a Tegra2 tab with 4G to play with a week ago and while I have used it as a book reader for a bit and did some web access and youtube watching on the go. I haven't really done much with it and I miss not being able to stream Netflix (I know you can mes around and get the non-honeycomb Netflix app to work but it's a pain and it didn't work in this particular tab I was testing).

The battery life is a bit weak but do you really need 10 hours of use while on a long plane trip (the W500 will definitely last 6 hours if you turn off Wifi and put the brightness to low since they always turn off the cabin light for a portion of the flight)? I fly to Asia from the U.S. quite often and I don't really use the Tab or laptop for more than a few hours even on a 14 hours flight and I always have access to a power outlet. How much actual time do you need between the meals and taking a short nap? And there's always at least one or 2 shows worth watching on the inflight entertainment system.
