Disntance from router causing network to be unidentified?

Thread Starter
I have just got the internet sorted in our flat but I am having a lot of problems. On my laptop, when closer to the router I can get the internet just fine, but on my desktop which is a long way away from the router and has a lot of walls inbetween it and the router, I am having no such luck. I can find the network, and connect to it, but it always connects as an unidentified public network with no internet connection. I have tried 2 different routers and the problem is the same for both. I have followed many tutorials online written by people with similar problems but nothing has worked. I am using an Edimax wireless card that gives speeds up to 300MBps and has a fair range and I have uninstalled and reinstalled it twice. I have fiddled with various network settings but nothing. I am at my wits end and have no idea what to do frown.gif
Please help me if you can

Try moving the router closer or to a higher level.
You can even try upgrading your antennas.
But personally try this first, its a parabolic antenna which can be made with home stuff.
