Would be sweet if they one day allowed trading of games, tho I doubt it.

For a good reason... Why would anybody ever buy games any more if all they had to do was sell 'used' digital copies or trade 'old' digital copies? The only reason it works with physical copies is because there is an actual supply and demand for that supply, with a constant decreasing of used copies due to wear and tear/removal from the market.

I don't understand why people see digital used games as a viable solution that would work.

i have seen gabe newell in interviews that he wanted the consumers to actively take part in development of a game in production such as finance for the new upcoming title..i think in future we will become shareholders of valve.....this steam beta i think is the first step for this...

I'm not sure anyone actually read the OP. This isn't a trade in system where you can get credit for games you own. It's a trade system where you can swap gift copies of games that you buy, or trade them for items inside valve games like tf2 and portal 2.

From the description, it looks like you can trade gift games. For example, lets say you got gifted Duke Nukem. Your friend got gifted Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

You could then trade your gift copy of Duke Nukem for your friend's gift copy of Deus Ex. As long as you do not open the gift, you can continue to trade it.

What do you mean by trading Steam Gifts?

Any game you’ve purchased from the store as a gift, or received as an Extra Copy, can be traded to other users. They can be used to trade for other Gifts, or for items in Team Fortress 2. We’ve added a new checkout option to the Store when purchasing a gift so you can save it for trading or sending later, to support users who want to save games for trade fodder.

What restrictions are there on trading Steam Gifts?

Trading a Steam Gift is very similar to sending a gift to someone; just that once it is traded that user can then either trade it again, or open it for themselves. There are no restrictions on territory.

Does Steam Trading mean I can sell my used games?

No, only games that have been bought as a gift, and thus have never been played, can be traded. Once the Steam Gift is opened and added to your game library, you won’t be able to trade it again.
