Will release on impact; 472,452,919.128 joules of energy on impact. This is equivalent to 0.00011 kilotons of TNT or .11 tons of TNT. If you double that weight so you have 90lbs of material flying that fast you would only double the energy release. Basic, but if you say double the speed (13611.6m/s) of the 45lb weight on impact it would release 1,889,811,676.512 joules of energy or .451 tons of TNT.
The Davy Crockett nuclear recoilless gun carried a warhead that weighed 74lbs and had a selectable yield between 10 and 20 tons of TNT. Which amounts to 41,840,000,000 and 83,680,000,000 joules respectively. Our 45lb weight would have to travel significantly faster to reach those energy levels. Even the simple 500lb, 1000lb, and 2000lb bomb have more energy...

This weapon isn't about high yields, it's about rapid response. And the energy it delivers is highly concentrated- which means it could take out a ship or a bunker that a traditional explosive would barely dent. You wouldn't pound cities with these things, but instead use them to neutralise command centres, runways, carriers and subs etc before a conflict even began.

If its 20x teh speed of sound it wouldnt make a sound it would take a long time for the sound to catch up especially if it was in space where no sound can travel.

I pretty sure they mean to attach a warhead to it.

Doesn't matter anyway...looks litk the test did not got so well. They lost it after nine minutes of flight...though I think that was actually nine minutes after launch. Not sure.

I think the first test was more successful. My expectation is that the program will be shut down. Which is probalbly a good thing anyway with the current budget...this is quite a blow and right after China launches its first true aircraft carrier. I am betting that is one hell of a boat.
