Help! Extremely slow loading internet videos

Thread Starter
So for the past id say month maybe a little more...90% of the videos i try and load be it from youtube, my local news station or just some random website way off in the depths of the web loads extremely slow...and when i mean extremely slow i mean it takes an average of 2 minutes to load a 2 minute 360p youtube video...going HD forget it it took me almost 20 minutes to load a 1080p video on youtube about a video game that was 10ish minutes long...i understand different servers have different load capacities and all that...but to have 90% of my internet video load so slow from all over the web...seems a bit off

so im seriously at a loss here...ive followed some youtube guides to fixing the slow loading by screwin with the flash global settings...ive made sure my net isnt getting throttled by my isp...restarted all of my equipment several times...i even changed my DNS servers from my isp to googles and then to opendns...nothing....the rest of the net seems to be working as intended...i download files just as quick as always...webpages load just like they always have

so any help from the knowledgeable people on OCN?

btw...here is a speed test 1425423678.png

This sounds like a video throttling issue by your ISP tbh (yes I read the post).

If you have the means to watch actual throughput on router, pull up that tool/page and then pull down the biggest youtube video you can find. Watch the traffic pattern for about 2minutes. The queue up a large file download from somewhere else and see if the pattern changes significantly.

hm interesting...didnt know ISP's could throttle just video...figured if it was throttling it would be throttling all of my usage

sadly though my router doesnt allow me to view real time activity...at least i dont believe it does as ive never seen it and i spend too much time in that interface lol..im rockin an old Buffalo wireless G router

so is there a way to combat this "video throttle" if thats whats going on? ive been tempted to call them and see if they know whats going on with my stuff...but like every company that deals with tech they want to troubleshoot the most simplest things that ive already done...aka "have you power cycled your equipment"...thats why i asked here...ive also considered swapping out my modem for another...but i hate running the risk of getting a very crappy modem compared to what im using now

Try pulling a video stream through https. Their deep packet inspection may not catch that it is a video.

interesting...ill try that

i went searching for isp's throttling video streams and came across this little website

http://broadband.mpi-sws.org/transparency/bttest-mlab.php

it allows u to use a test called a Glasnost test that tests bandwidth shaping...so i ran the flash video test and it said my isp was limiting my bandwidth...but due to noise on the line it couldnt get an accurate result

so now with that info...i may have to give my isp a call and see *** is going on with this...cause all this just started happening

EDIT: when you say pull down using https...you mean using SSL to encrypt the webpage? or am i missing something?

Look for a site that serves up video through a https connection. The encryption can (but not always) fend off some packet inspection routines allowing for full speed streaming.

Did you try running some malware removal tool such as ad-aware or spybot? There is really a lot of crap out there capable of taking a big part of your internet resources. It's the first I do when I feel the internet is not going as it should.

yeah...that was happening on a brand new install of win 7...but it seems its mostly solved and it seems that it was on my ISPs end
