Looking to build an ultra high-end water-cooled system. Please help.

Thread Starter
I am looking to build a fully water-cooled gaming rig for approximately $5500. Some components I have decided for sure on are:
  • Graphics Cards: 580 3GB Tri-Sli or 6970 Tri-CF (yes, I play at very high resolutions).
  • Storage: One 120GB SSD Drive and one 1.5TB SATA Drive (not sure which models to get though).
  • Optical Drive: One Blu-Ray Reader/DVD Writer (not sure which model to get).
Can you all please make suggestions as to what are the best components for the entire build (case, CPU, motherboard, RAM, water-cooling system, etc.) to get for my budget?

Thank you all very much!

I'll post more later, but for the Bluray drive, may as well get a writer. It's only a couple $ more.

Since you play at some REALLY High resolution's, I'd suggest a six core processor. Something like a 1100T/990X. Here is a system I'd get personally for 5500$ and under:

Corsair Obsidian Series 800D - 280$
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition - 195$
G.SKILL PI 8GB (4 x 2GB) Quad Channel DDR3 1600 (6-8-6-24 @ 1.6V's) - 150$
ASUS Crosshair V Formula AM3+ - 240$

The watercooling is going to be up the butt too long, so I'll leave you to that.

Nice recommendation.. but is that the right mobo for tri-sli with 3GB 580s?

Havent checked the spec of that board but he might need a board with 16x8x8 PCIE to get the most out of tri SLI at high res.
The Gigabyte UD7 looks like a nice board too that can do 16x8x8.

The maximus IV supports tri-sli, I beleive at 16/16/8, its a wonderful choice. Im so jealous tri 580's make me so jelly

Nice recommendation list above. I'd move the C300 SSD to the S4.

GPU block - Aquagraphx 580 or HK GPUx3
SLI bridge - Aquacomputer twinConnect kit, parallel config
CPU block - Kryos Silver or HK 3.0
Mobo block - Koolance MB-ASC4E
Pump - 2x DDC
Res - Koolance RP-401X2 or Koolance RP-402X2, take your pick
Tubing - Primochill Primoflex
Fittings - Bitspower compression
Rads - Depends on the case, but at least a 360 AND 240. If you don't mind external, do an internal 360 and external.

I'd go a notch above that - all this is dependent on if the 5500 includes monitors or not. If you need to get monitors in the budget than this post is useless.

Case Labs TH10 case

AMD X2 550 or something for now, unlock it if possible, and get Bulldozer when it's released...

Here's a quick cart - the TH10 is outta the question if you're going to get a serious water cooling system in there... if you were doing just 2 video cards it'd be doable... get the RX480 radiators and do a few other "cuts" on components... Yate Loons instead of GT fans, etc...

The above RAM kit is nice, or get the 4x4gb 7-8-7-24 kit if you need the memory. Also could consider a set of 4x2gb Super Talents if the budget is there.

for the H2O kit.... (assuming you got the TH10) since you want the "ultra high end" I'd only consider 2x GTX 480's (Top Mount) + GTX 360 (PSU Side Mount), 11x GT AP-15 fans (for radiators), various other fans as needed for airflow purposes, EK Supreme HF Copper, watercooling blocks for the graphic cards, dual PMP-450S in Series @ 24v for pumps, whatever reservoir you choose, a lot of 7/16 tube, lots of 1/2 inch barbs (I prefer normal barbs with clamps, but I dont have a case window) of your choice, etc.
