MSI 570/580 TFII/III what should I get?

Thread Starter
I'll be playing on a 1920x1080 only, for a solid year or two (or three, my plan for next upgrade is Maxwell).

How are TFII and TFIII different? Does TFIII's cooling improves by a large margin compare to TFII?

Are there any TFIII 580 for sell at all (the 1.5GB version)? Been searching around and all I see are 3GB version. 'Egg is selling only the TFII version as well.

If you can afford a 580, go for it. I'd suggest either the MSI Lightning or the Asus DCII card (both are 3 slot coolers). Those are the best on air 580's out right now.

Huh, I thought they were both 3 slots. Either way, they're both great cards.

And they're both available on newegg (if you're in US of A).

But that's the Frozr 2 one at 1.5gb. I think I bought the last Forzr 3/3GB card on Newegg.

If you look at MSI's site, they tell you where you can buy online
http://us.msi.com/service/n580gtxxe/

BUT I checked all of them and none have stock currently.

Obviously as others have said if you can afford it just get the 580.

However if you wanna save a bit of cash and get the performance of a stock 580, get a MSI Twin Frozr III 570, and OC that thing till next August.

Nope. I just checked the 1.5GB version and that one is also a 2 slot card see: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127567

And the MSI Lighting Extreme 3GB (The one I own) is a 2 slot card. See:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127589

Which is amazing considering the competition (the ASUS) is a 3 slot card, and more than likely runs hotter than the MSI.

People said that with ASUS DCII, it tends to run into the wall much earlier than other brands when overclocking. No doubt the cooling itself is great though.

I do want the 580, but I don't see the point of getting a 3GB VRAM version though when I plan to play with one display only.

That really doesn't surprise me about ASUS running into a wall when overclocking sooner..the ATI ASUS I had sucked ass for overclocking and was advertised as a beast of a overclocker.

And if money is a concern, and you don't feel like waiting for the MSI Extreme 3GB to come back into stock (I'm sure it will) then just get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127567

However, I don't know how much has changed from Forzr 2 to Forzr 3, and it seems there is only a 1.5GB Forzr 2 and no 1.5GB Forzr 3 version.
