Still on Audigy 2. Worth upgrading?

Thread Starter
In the next few months, im gonna be upgrading my rig to something a bit more powerful to run Skyrim with max details. Almost all my parts have been replace over the years but i'm still running basic Audigy 2 PCI card back from 2005. I'm attached to a Logitech Z-5300 5.1 sound system and i've always wondered if I could get better sound quality then what I currently have with Audigy 2.

I don't do recording or audio editing of any kind, mostly just music and light gaming needs.

Any input would be appreciated

If all your 5.1 channels are still working and you are happy with how it sounds, don't worry about it. If it isn't broke, don't fix it!

I've got a Z-5500 (don't know how similar the two systems are) and I'd also like to know if it's worth getting a good $100ish soundcard.

Unless you aren't using it with S/PDIF, no.

z-5500 are good enough speakers. And yes, I would recommend a sound card upgrade since it will make enough of a difference from what you have now (especially for gaming).

The budget route (but still very good) would be the Xonar DX at $50 refurbed.
Then its Auzentech Forte at around $80 refurbed/used.
Then its gonna be Titanium HD at around $150.

Freezebyte, I doubt you're notice much of an improvement if you upgraded your sound card due to the lower end quality of the speakers that you have. To notice a difference you'd need to overhaul bolth, which I doubt you want to spend even more money to do that right now.

Yeah, I actually recently updated the sound blaster driver and my sound is alot better now then what it has been for years, and the 5.1 actually works correctly now in Win 7 so I think i'll just stick with it, I can't justify $100+ on a soundcard as im not an audiophile anyway
