The statement is in the title of the article. How much more discerning can one be unless you're suggesting that the title of the article is not apart of the article itself.

It's a biased article, in my opinion. The author seems to have no problem with Microsoft's relatively friendly litigation tactics until a blog post was made and then he goes on to make claims about their true motivation behind the patents, conjuring one big straw-man in the process.

I don't recall anywhere in the Microsoft blog post about them claiming the patents were created by Microsoft, so the snarky undertones and Dr. Evil quote that's trying to downplay the success of WP7 are irrelevant.

@Profit from litigation:
-Windows Phone is a minuscule portion of their EDD business and overall net profit, so profiting from such a currently insignificant venture is like spitting into the ocean.

@Stifle competition:
Unlike Apple, Microsoft actually extended a license to HTC and is looking to do the same with Barnes and Noble.

Vanilla WP7 is already more diverse than iOS, Android, webOS, and Symbian. The only thing it really lacked was Copy/Paste and "true" multitasking that isn't managed by the OS.

How do they look like?
Is it those boring gigantic square menus?

Are you claiming that this is pure nonsense?

People are equally saying that about Google's posts about the Nortel patents acquisition.

So.., you're just saying that WP7 is not one of Microsoft's primary focuses? I have a hard time believing that the amount they're making for HTC's licensing is not of a significant profit in their mobile dept, given that WP7's sales obviously aren't bringing in as much revenue.

Just because they're not taxing Google doesn't mean that licensing fees aren't tacking on the cost to shipping out Android devices, given that Android does not inherently have a licensing fee. The fact that they're trying to build one up in such a way to discourage Android support does not make it any less profitable for them, in terms of cashflow or market share.

I'll just leave the last point alone, as that is simply too subjective and would incite an even more branching from the OP.

I LOVE the WP7 interface. I'm very much considering it as my next phone after my Aria goes kaput.

I used WP way back when it was Windows CE all the way through WP6.5, then went Android. The refresh was very nicely done. It's so different that they really should have renamed it.

lol you guys did go a little off topic. This 'patent war' seems to be a hot topic on OCN at the moment.

I doubt that a sub $100 WP7 will come out any time soon. Mainly because of the minimum hardware requirements set by Microsoft for WP7.

Any WP7 from now on will be Mango, which has got me thinking maybe I should have waited for the second gen of WP7 phones. Oh well I'm happy with my 7Q

I agree it's much improved over the previous versions of Windows Phone.
The interface is great aswell, and as BizzareRide mentioned the UI uses hardware acceleration. So the user interface seems 'smooth'

Though I have to admit, I'm jealous of the Galaxy S 2's dual core and bigger screen

It was called Windows Mobile. Now it's called Windows Phone.

Nope.

Wrong again and again.

The Nexus One is HTC manufactured and the Nexus S is Samsung manufactured.

They just stuck a "Google Name" on them to be marketed as "pure" android phones with no custom UI experience.

OT: I think from the start Windows Phone 7 has been more advanced than iOS or Android were when they launched which shows a lot. You can tell with WP7 that Microsoft really took their time and tried to make a tightly knitted OS as they possibly could.

I'm not going to comment on the rest, but please actually try a recent Android phone, every phone I've used from my HTC Dream has been smooth and lag free.

My SGS2 is lag free even with an AV and game running in the background and a 3D cube affect on my main icon docks, which honestly is better than any of my computers have ever done.

Maybe this was a bit of an issue back with the HTC Dream on 1.6, but any recent phone (Desire, Galaxy S 2, etc) has been fine, no lack of smoothness that I can't detect on an iPhone 4 or Omnia 7. (i.e. The small amounts you occasionally get with intensive apps opening or closing)
