Currently running Mango 7712 and no problems here.
I did have the first Mango Beta 7661 or whatever, and it was quite sluggish.
When I bought my phone, I instantly threw Mango on it. So I don't know how NoDo was compared to Mango Beta's.

But I have been reading conflicting reports that some have been able to go to 7712 to 7720 and some people had to go back to the version that shipped with their phone and then make their way though the updates. TBH. I'll just wait until Samsung releases it. IIRC, there is nothing in 7720 that isn't in 7712.

does mango allow for custom ringtones finally.. i so want a wp7 but waiting for a dual core and with a better camera.

Not that I know of.
But I'm not bothered by it. My phone is on vibrate 99% of the time any ways.
I can't wait to see what Microsoft brings with "Tango"

And nope once you want to Revert back you just hit that neat little Restore button and it takes you back to the version you had before you Updated to Mango.(NoDo for me)

It does and so does the WP7 Beta, not officially supported in Beta but is in the official 7720 with the Appropriate zune client.

Does Mango have improved camera software? And better handling of application resuming?

Even my old non-smartphone from 2008 executed these tasks better than my current Surround.

I don't know about the improved camera software. I don't think it has really changed. Though I know that the Samsung Focus offers more options than the HTC variants do.

Application resuming I believe was improved vs NoDo.
I would recommend giving Mango a shot if you haven't already.
It's not really that hard, and there is tons of instructions how to on XDA.

Then your friend, mom, and whoever has a Droid X is doing it wrong. The Thunderbolt is the fastest single core phone on the market, probably the fastest phone period, right now (since android won't properly make use of dual cores till ice cream sandwich). Droid 2 is starting to get outdated, but still fast. Droid X is a similar story. But those 2 have Motoblur

My original Droid is still going...slowing down but definitely not too slow.

I don't know about improved camera software, but the introduction of multi-tasking with more applications has been implemented in Mango.
Plus more API's for developers.
