Something I've been thinking about recently is the real differences between AMD and Nvidia and also the configuration that will get the best performance. Now even though I'm an intel guy, when it comes to a GPU I normally go for the best "bang for your buck" pound in other words which card/set-up will get you the best performance/£ ratio. I personally prefer Nvidia because I think they normally come with a better build quality and a better amount of features BUT that doesn't mean I wouldn't get an ATI or AMD card.

Anyway back to the reason I'm making this post. Obliviously everyone is going to have a different opinion on this but logic would predict that an AMD CPU coupled with a AMD GPU would give you the best performance for the simple fact that they are the same company and should work together better than 2 separate companies products. But the simple fact is that at the moment a 6990 (only slightly but still does) beat a 590 (although it gets hotter than a jet engine). As for CPU core performance, I don't know the facts but I think that a intel beats AMD (don't quote me on that). Another thing you have to take into account is that well lets face it if your getting an AMD CPU the main problem is the motherboards, I mean intel motherboards are just alot more advanced and have alot newer and better technology, features and specs. So on this basis an intel coupled with an AMD GPU would be the best??

So thats the question. "Which CPU, GPU configuration will give you the best performance and features?" and the options are:

AMD CPU + AMD GPU
AMD CPU + Nvidia GPU
intel CPU + AMD GPU
intel CPU + Nvidia GPU

My thoughts would be intel and Nvidia, even if I've said a 6990 is slightly better (with raw performance) the problem with it is the fact you could use it as a hair dryer!! But what do you think? If you've bothered to read all this at least have your say on the poll if your not going to post a response

MMMM Intel + Nvidia currently offers the best overall performance in single card configs, however AMD + AMD can offer great price vs performance, while Intel + AMD offers a slight mix between the two.

AMD cpus can't run high end gpus from either company in some titles very well (cpu bottlenecks), going multi gpu without a huge res or an Intel cpu is folly.

Overall the market is diverse enough that there is something for everyone and because of that, there is no one "right" combo.

Its the budget people that get the amd/amd combo. If you truely had the money there is not many reasons to go amd because usually intel and nvidia offer more performance.

The best price performance setups have a combo of both amd/intel or nvidia/amd.

just are :L i know it sounds silly but they just are... sure im not saying there aren't good AMD motherboards, but in general there are more better motherboards for the intel socket than AMD, although AMD are starting to catch up the intel motherboards still come out on top with better features, specs and such. If I had to guess it would be because AMD have always been seen as the cheap option and for that reason companies would rather put their money into developing the BEST intel board; whether that be with new tech/features/cooling/OC'ability/or even looks they probably just put their money into the intel side rather than the AMD side.

I have a friend with an AMD/ATI setup (or should I say had) over the past 5 years all he's had is problems with his and all he's had is problems with AMD, it doesn't mean other people do but me intel and nvidia have lasted longer without problems, so in my personal experience intel and Nvidia are also more reliable (but like I said thats my experience, not everyone elses).

Obliviously there are going to be people that disagree but I'm just saying it how I've seen it and that is in general intel boards have been better than AMD. Not saying AMD are useless (not that atall) just that intel seem to have better ones

I have zero issues running AMD cpu, and Nvidia gpu. Matter of fact I am about to buy a 580. If it bottlenecks (which I don't see it doing) I will sell off my AMD stuff and go Intel, or wait for Bulldozer and see if it benefits any.

D

Edit, but if I had my choice, I would have a Intel/Nvidia setup...too much coin for me though.
