Another GTX 460 vs GTX 560

Thread Starter
Hi,

I am starting this thread because I am based in Sweden and the prices are different. I'm asking for the best bang for the buck, which card to choose. My rig is a Q6600 @ 3Ghz (8*375 @ 1.275V), 8GB RAM, PNY 8800GT, 1920x1080. Interesting aspects are power consumption (especially idle) and noise. I'm considering the MSI 460 Hawk just because it's cheap but it's not a big jump to the Asus ENGTX560 for $233 but it's not Ti so it will probably not be worth it? My interpretation is to get a 460 (like the Hawk) or a 560 Ti which is $73 more expensive. Is it worth the difference?

My choices are:
$186 Asus ENGTX460 DirectCU TOP/2DI/768MD5 768MB (not thinking about this, just to give a perspective on prices)
$201 MSI N460GTX Hawk 1GB
$218 Asus ENGTX460 DirectCU TOP/2DI/1GD5/V2 1GB or Gigabyte GTX 460 OC Mini HDMI Dual-DVI 1GB
$233 Asus ENGTX560 DC/2DI/1GD5 1GB (cheapest 560)
$250-$260:
Gainward GTX 560 GS HDMI Dual-DVI 1GB
PNY GTX 560 HDMI Dual-DVI 1GB
MSI N560GTX-M2D1GD5/OC 1GB

$274 KFA2 (Galaxy) GTX 560 Ti EX OC HDMI Dual-DVI 1GB (cheapest 560Ti)
$280 Gainward GTX 560 Ti HDMI Dual-DVI 1GB
$310 Asus Radeon EAH6950 DCII/2DI4S/1GD5 1GB (cheapest 6950)

Thanks!

Id say get the hawk simply because its cheaper, and has a little less performance than the Ti. The thing is that the new gpus will be out before long and when that happens they will seriously destroy the current line up and also push prices way down on the 400 and 500 series gpus.

So why pay the premium now for a slight performance bump, when you will probably pay the same price in a few months for twice the performance.

You wil also loose less money that way buying the hawk to tide you over.

id say get the cheapest gtx460 because your q6600 will bottleneck even a gtx460,
i had a gtx260 with a q6600 when i upgraded to a gtx560ti i saw no improvment in fps.
until i changed to i52500k then my fps doubled.

Q6600 wont bottleneck a GTX 460. UMAD?

Seriously get the GTX 460, its a great card, and when said new GPU's come out SLI for some really amazing gains.

Word of warning, get a 2GB model.

Get the HAWK... No need to buy a gtx 560 (non-Ti) as its the same but oc-ed higher. With the hawk you will probably (if not surely) clock higher than 560 (non ti). My hawk can oc up to 970, but pushing it, stable 940mhz.

Thanks for your answers! A 2GB model is much more expensive ($390) so I guess I will buy the HAWK.
I hope it'll last me until I upgrade my computer as I've only got one PCI-Express 16x on my mobo.

Which one is the best?

What about Asus ENGTX460 DirectCU TOP/2DI/1GD5/V2 1GB? That one I can get right away, the MSI Hawk will probably arrive next week as I have to buy it online.

Is the Asus card worse than the Hawk (it is also $17 more).

TIA

No the asus is a good card, but the hawk and hawk talon attack are known to be the best 460's for overclocking and stock cooling. It's luck of the draw when you buy a card, especially if you plan on overclocking it.
