From what I've heard the Dark Knight is the superior cooler. The V8 was kinda meh.

Both coolers perform thermally and acoustically very similar to each other and both can certainly handle your oc'ed Q6600 well. And their current prices are also close. So, none of these 3 departments make either one stand out above the other.

So, this could perhaps become a choice of brand (loyalty) and the looks of the cooler.

I have used the V8 before and I will probably give a slight edge to the Dark Knight because it should be easier to replace the fan (if needed) and to clean the heatsink (when needed).

I'd get the Dark Knight.

The Dark Knight can handle pretty good overclocks, especially for the money. You can always add another 120mm fan for push/pull too, while with the Arctic Freezer 7, you're stuck with a single 92mm fan. Also look at the Coolermaster Hyper 212+.

If the Dark Knight is cheaper I think I'd definitely go for it.

In my view the Dark Knight and V8 perform about the same. I have a V8 on a 1090TBE and Dark Knight on a 955BE, both overclocked to the same percentage and they both perform equally. I guess you could compare the thermal properties of the Q6600 with the 1090T and 955 to see how they compare; that may give you more insight as to what you may experience versus what I'm seeing between the two AMD chips.

The cases for both are different and the internals are configured slightly different, but I feel I would be able to swap them and still get the same perfomance out of both machines.

Not what you wanted to hear maybe, but that's what I'm seeing. Just asking, but have you considered going up a tier?

I can't comment on the Arctic Freezer, but I will add that the V8 was harder to install than the Dark Knight! I could've used a third hand at times with the V8.
