Well, I wouldn't call them completely justified but, to be fair, you guys had that one coming.
As for the "still are" bit, ye're not because the majority in the North are happy with the status quo and any citizen of the Republic who would force a unified Ireland on the North is as bad as the English were day one, Northern Irish nationalists are entitled to their opinion but the rest of Ireland has no right to interfere in the political goings on of what is now a seperate entity.
This is just mindless chaos, at least the Easter uprising was organised and the Irish rebels weren't aiming to hurt the citizens of their own country, the nationalists had the good will of the Irish people as a whole and they knew the only way they'd keep it was if they kept collateral damage to a minimum.
Basically they had an ideal that was supported by the majority of the population, not a transparent excuse for violence.
