A 6870 should be about 25-30% faster than a 5770. A performance upgrade, just not a huge one. Like others have said, a 560 TI or 6950 1GB would be the best choice to offer a more noticeable improvement and can be found in the $200-220 if you are willing to deal with a rebate.

On a side note though: I got my XFX HD6870 for $149 shipped (AR) plus Shogun 2 and Dirt 3, both of which I sold for $20, making it a $109 card essentially...if I get my rebate.....that is a fantastic deal if anything like that pops up again. Also OP, are you planning to sell your 5770 after? Maybe that can be factored into your budget to give you some leverage?

If you can wait and get lucky, you can find a open box Radeon 6970 for about that much

People should really make a distinction between 560 and 560 Ti. The Ti version handily beats the 560. Nvidia's naming scheme confuses people. The 560 Ti slightly beats the 6870. The 6870 beats the 560 easily.

GTX 570 > GTX 560 Ti

2 x GTX 560 Ti = GTX 580
2 x GTX 570 = GTX 590
