I also recommend not using LinX (not even LinX with AVX). When the Sandy Bridge experts here on OCN were helping me learn all about Sandy Bridge, there was one major thing that stuck out to me: they said Prime95's Blend test is far superior to anything else for stress testing Sandy Bridge CPUs. With previous CPU generations, it was better to test a system with both LinX and Prime95, but it seems that LinX is a huge waste of time with Sandy Bridge.

What happens when you try to open it? Also, what is the exact file name of what you are trying to open?
That might explain why I'm getting freezes or very rarely a BSOD when gaming for example (TF2), I kept increasing the vcore by +0.005v, but I'll try disabling C3 and C6 and reduce it back a little now. Does disabling C3/C6 prevent the voltage from dropping though, or the clock, or ..?

Both the Clock and Vcore will still drop, but the Vcore will not drop quite as much.

To expand on what turrican9 said, it just prevents it from dropping so low while idling that the result is a BSOD. It will still drop down significantly, but just not too low.

I see. Pardon my confusion but although you said disable C3 and C6, I have some other BIOS options.

Enhanced Halt State (C1E), C3 State Support, C6 State Support and Package C State Support (Auto, C2, C6, Disabled).

I assume I set C3, C6 and Package C State Support to Disabled, leave the C1E enabled?

EDIT: Done that. Idle voltages are now 1.04v instead of 1.00v or less than 1.00v. Interestingly I notice the effects of LLC now, that is when I initially run something intensive for the CPU it spikes to 1.37v then down to 1.32v, should I reduce LLC and VCORE?

joealbergo - I have no idea why this happens, but you have the same problem as me.

CPU-Z is showing the VTT voltage rather than the VCore voltage.

I've been looking for ways to fix this, but haven't found any as of yet.

Ok I am back breifly - and have been reading.

The C1E I have enabled however I am disabling the C3/C6 ....

I still can't use Realtemp and I have not been able to see the proper value of VCORE with CPU-Z

I don't know what Package C State Support is, but I recommend leaving it enabled because I think C1E is one of the C states. However, if its default value is Disabled, then of course leave it disabled.

C1E should be set to Enabled just to be sure that it's always working.

LLC should be set to a value that minimizes vDroop the most without getting any vRise (no spikes).
